A Another

- I've a feeling you know full well that Munster won it. If not, have you never heard of google, wikipedia etc instead of harrassing people with ignorant questions about some of Irelands most successful sportsmen.

Honestly couldnt remember wasnt being ignorant. Munster were being discussed here so I thought it would be the easiest way to find out. Good achievement especially as its only a minority sport in Ireland - before someone complains about how popular it is at the minute I think its fair to assume that a lot of the support will disappear as soon as Ireland/Munster stop doing well - bit like the soccer support in early 90's.

Personally I think KK hurlers should win it, playing their third all ireland final on the trot and winning by record margins? Maybe its just me but thats a much bigger achievement given the speed and skill level they play at. No offence to munster rugby but the euro cup is something they were able to buy as much as win KK success was down to years and years of work at under age etc within their own county and to cap of three in a row should give them the award.

No disrespect to any of yee in here but for GAA people i didnt see much talk about quite possibly the greatest GAA team of all time and im not a KK supporter.

Hag, no offence to your mate ok, and I am not for a second doubting your sincerity, but POC regards himself as a castleconnell man. He was raised there. He hurled alright for a short while but never really loved it, his first love is swimming would you believe and he was a decent basketball player too. He is actually mates with the sister for years! But Hag I can tell you for a fact, if you met him and asked him over a pint where he is from, he will say Castleconnell.

re: liam

one last question he never hurled with ahane right (castleconnells club) just with South liberties? So what age did he move to castleconnell at right i'd be around his age and played against ahane a lot as a young fellow wonder if i ever played against him.

I wasnt doubting the players were Irish Liam, was just curious as to the number. I see you's dropped the Munster from my quote about a lot of rugby following dying away when Munster/Ireland stop doing well. As I've been informed here Munster are currently European champions so that will keep interest going for another while. Ireland have still been competitive in recent 6 nations. Its once they stop realistically having a chance of winning it and Munster stop competing at top level in Europe that support will die away but to previous levels - there will always be a base support.

If you look at this years viewing figures for Ireland rugby games they were down on previous year. Even the biggest name in world rugby only averaged 630,000 viewers at peak time which would be well short of an All Ireland final and the Ireland team would have the support of the whole country (and hence people more likely to watch as they support the team) and not just competing counties.

North Side Gael, this may well be the greatest hurling team of all time, but I am not sure. The game is in serious decline and the availability of tickets on all-ireland final day was a real worry. Maybe it was always that way for hurling? Becuase of the small amount of opposition for the title - I don't think Kilkenny will get it.

Tyrone got it in 2005 but they went through a 10 game championship and had to fight through the back door becuase of refereeing mistakes (conceded by the referee - not my opinion). They deserved it then. This year the journey has been tough as well with the team having been written off by much of the media. Given the loss of marquee forwards Tyrone had to play a brand of total football with all players having to be able to play in any position. It would be great to see the men in red and white and beards going up to collect their awards but I don't think its going to happen.

Sportsperson of the year, has to be Harrington (or Joe McMahon!)
Team of the year, Munster or how about the Cork ladies football team
