I think that is the correct format alright. Once the championship gets to the closing stages, teams will not field in the league if they are out of championhship. This directive has been coming for a long time and regardless of whether we agree with it or not we cannot shout foul because we had been warned. The problem arises with the fact that, as usual, there has been no information coming from our useless powers that be, there has been no consultation process with the clubs and we are left with a farce of a system whereby conceivable some clubs will play one game all year. They have yet to clarify if relegation is to be decided by the league as the Croke Park directive states that promotion AND relegation is to be decided by results in the championship. In that case a round robin such as the hurling clubs currently have in place is the only way forward for our football championships, which would not be a bad thing. Teams would be guaranteed three/four championship games and then play-offs for relegation/promotion as the case may be. Clubs are actually more likely to fulfil league fixtures in this scenario for game practice because most teams will be either contesting promotion/relegation play-offs and will want to play the games. In the current format, league games become meaningless for sides that have nothing to play for so the tendancy may be there to not bother playing at all. To make matters even worse this year, we are 9 days away from the start of the league and there are no fixtures realised. So much for pledges to take better care of the club players, what a laugh. The situation is actually worse.

Junior "A" Leagues
The Junior Leagues will continue to be under the control of the
GPC's
For 2009 the Junior "A" League will remain as heretofore with two
groups in both the West & North.
At the end of the 2009 League the top 3/4 teams from both
groups in the West & North, will make up the Junior "A" 1
Leagues with the remaining 3/4 making up the Junior "A" 2
Leagues.
It may be possible at the end of the year, if the Clubs agree, to
promote a few of the "B" teams so that there will be Groups of 8
all round for 2010
West: North:
Group "A1 8 Teams Group "A1" 8 Teams
Group "A2" 8 Teams Group "A2" 8 Teams
West GPC & North GPC Semi-finals to be introduced in all groups
1 (at home) v 4 : 2 (at home) v 3
Two GPC Finals "A!" & "A2"
Winners to contest County Final
Promotion and relegation will apply between Groups "A1" & A2"
in both the West & North (3 up 3 down) and there will be
relegation from the Junior "A2" League to the Junior "B" League.
(One team from each group in the West & North).

the 'system' appears quite complicated .........why not have the top two teams in junior A league promoted to intermediate league each year?.
this would make the league both meaningful and allow ambitious teams to advance to a higher grade of football.
