milltown have da opportunity to win it depends on how many players end up playin senior rather den junior. wer unlucky not to win out da league last year. dey lost to eventual winners st kerrils in a hard fought match. milltown will have to be incontention!

I have heard that the league is starting on the 21/22 March - if this is true it means that we are going to be starting in under 3 weeks time. Bit of a joke that we still do not know for sure how the league is going to work or who is in the groups this year!! But sure that's the only way with Galway GAA!!! Imagine someone knowing what was happening in 3 weeks time!! That would be a joke!! Sure that would give lads a chance to plan things!! Why would they want that!! For all the giving out that is done in some parishes and amongst the heads in Galway GAA about losing players to soccer etc i am surprised that is is any wonder to them!! Even in soccer you know on Sunday if you have a game the following weekend!! Here you find out on Tuesday evening if you are lucky!! WHY OH WHY are we still giving out about the same issues year after bloody year!!

Conamara - You're right, I remember a few of us chatting about this issue last year on this site.
On the GalwayGAA web page they have the master fixtures 2009 up for the hurling but no sign of the football one. As far as I know the league is starting on the 21/22 March. Same old story a mhac!!

I heard today lads that the junior a league west is goona be in 1 group. so if thats the case there is 11 league ahead. it really is badly organised. probably only relegation to play for in league as no team will go up through league. spiddal the team to beat this year?????

the league is all about giving players access to as many games as possible and help a team to develop, most clubs in other counties put alot more emphasis on leagues than happens with galway clubs , not sure why this is the case here.
i would be suprised if young lynch is lost to gaelic football as its clear by the way he playes the game that it is his favoutite sport and with ballinasloe football on the up i can see him getting a call from the county senior team management very soon.

I don't think many teams go flat out training to lose

I'd say the team to beat this year will be Spiddal or Arainn. From what i have heard both are flat out training. Na Piarsaigh will hope to have a good year aswell but might take their eye of the ball with the National Comortas in Rosmuc this year. Salthill might be a big suprise aswell - from what i have heard - heard they demolished Carraroe at the weekend - no big suprise there - as they are a team that will struggle!

Eire89 i doubt very much you watched an Spideal beat an Cheathrú Rua 2 weeks ago - never happened. Yeah Salthill beat us fairly well on the weekend - they had an awful lot of good players out (maurice sheridan etc) and look like they will be strong for the year ahead, very fit and well drilled. We have not done much yet but do not think we will be push overs in the league - never know!! Anyone know anything about the league in the Westboard? Is it a secret society this year and people are not allowed know anything until some genius in the County board springs it on us at the last second? Surely someone knows whats happening!!

Supposed to be next weekend, of course the county board will not update fixture list and let people know. Typical, they just dont care.

As far as I know from speaking to Club Secretaries the Junior A format as has been mentioned before will remain for this year. Quite an amount of Clubs are more than a bit miffed at the format of 7 teams in the West (West) and 6 in West (Central), (those with Hurling Teams)
The general negative feedback is that the League is a joke with only one team being promoted from the Championship. Once Junior A teams have a few points in the League and are safe from relegation they will just hand the opposition the games and the points. The West is awake but the West Officials are asleep even if it is a directive from Croke Park affecting the Intermediate & now Junior formats. Instead of adopting the old Galway structure they are penalising it....cause "Galway are too strong every year" ie Caherlistrane, Moycullen, St Michaels. Galway Officials should have opposed this or am I missing something here???
