Ros muc or Arainn have good teams this year sammythecrow (Tyrone) - Posts: 14 - 16/01/2009 09:06:36 182041 Link 0 |
Lad's, be careful of Salthill / Knocknacarra in the Junior A. They narrowly missed out last year in the West Board, (with a very young an inexperienced team that was not training for approx 4-6 wks) having beaten most teams in the League. They have a serious Manager in j.j.burke who coached and trained Salthill to All-Ireland in 2006 and by all accounts brought An Ceathrua to a level they had never reached before. Plus Salthill will have serious heads to be re-graded (so I'm told). With Jimmy Heverin coming in there will be a "clean-out" which will benefit the Junior A. greatgalway (Galway) - Posts: 29 - 16/01/2009 15:44:00 182433 Link 0 |
JJ Burke brought Carraroe to a level they never reached before? Are you joking. Carraroe have won every honour that could be won 1984 Junior Champions, 1987 Intermediate Champions, Minor B Champions, 1989 Minor B Champions, 1992 Junior B Champions, 1995 Senior B Champions, 1996 Senior Champions , 1997 Curaí Náisiúnta Chomórtas Peile na Gaeltachta, 2000 Minor A Champions, 2001 Junior A Champions 2004 Sweeney Oil Champions, 2008 Sweeney Oil Champions, Minor B Champions. Carraroe's record while Mr. Burke was manager was 2007 relegated from Senior A, 2008 played one lost one. I suppose you are right when you say that he brought us to another level unfortunately it was in the wrong direction. Coiscuain (Galway) - Posts: 48 - 16/01/2009 22:38:21 182749 Link 0 |

Junior A should be left to Teams that have only Junior teams sammythecrow (Tyrone) - Posts: 14 - 17/01/2009 15:48:30 183035 Link 0 |
don't worry "coiscuain" as an ceathrua usually go up and down every year and my reference to mr burke was of a level at a recent time. did an ceathrua not win the 2008 comortas & were unlucky to gwee dore. plus they should have beaten caltra in pearse stadium in 2007.they shot 19 wides so players must take some blame "for their level".dont be living in the last with your achievements. bring them to the future, even your junior A last year has a great start so dont count them out either as they may be a match for salthill, an spideal, aran, renvyle. st grellans for the junior A 2009???? greatgalway (Galway) - Posts: 29 - 19/01/2009 13:39:55 183745 Link 0 |
Greatgalway, the facts are An Cheathru Rua were relegated while JJ was in charge there. As for your argument about the comortas, An Cheathru Rua win the local part of the comortas regularly, maybe the players there are a bit too fond of the weekend away it wins for them. However in the 2008 comortas, An Cheathru Rua (trained and prepared for this match by JJ) were beaten by a Junior A team (An Spideal) in the semi final, had gone backwards as far as i could see anyways. top_corner (Galway) - Posts: 23 - 19/01/2009 17:32:31 184059 Link 0 |
My whole point was that it was suggested that Mr Burke 'brought Carraroe to a different level' . I think that we can be sure now that he definately didn't improve the team. Your point is that i am living in the past be mentioning previous achievements. The reason for mentioning these is to prove that the club has been performing with a decent level of success through out it history at that Mr. Burke definately didn't bring us to a new level. The management before Mr.Burke got the team promoted. The present management have already won the Sweeney Oil and managed us to our best run in the Championship in four years and would almost certainly would have got us promoted had they been in charge for the whole campaign. Anyway let bygones be bygones and we hope for Salthill's sake that his experience in the Gaeltacht thaught him more than the 'cúpla focal'.
