Spideal, Renvyle in the west look very strong. wile in the north you really cant see any potential county champions. even though you've got two minor A football clubs whose first team is only junior A (headford and ballinasloe). how is this possible? are players quitting after minor or what? fred201 (Galway) - Posts: 99 - 15/05/2009 18:17:41 284758 Link 0 |

i think its fair to say that headford and ballinasloe are junior because the adult teams havent been dedicated enough over the years. ive seen their minor teams and they are quality teams if both clubs can hold on to them players. manager5 (Galway) - Posts: 724 - 15/05/2009 21:05:36 284867 Link 0 |

heard headford had a big seven point win over what were thought to be one of their main rivals for the north title this year. fearnua (Galway) - Posts: 311 - 21/05/2009 00:59:23 289541 Link 0 |
fearnua - when making a comment about a game that you werent even at, at least make sure your facts are correct. There was a 6 point difference at the final whistle instead of the incorrectly 7 point difference that you have reported. However I would not be basing Ballinasloes chances in the Championship solely on this one game. GailaimhAbu (Galway) - Posts: 6 - 21/05/2009 12:46:30 289857 Link 0 |
chill there GALL, i might have been out by a point but you people are still out by six points. fearnua (Galway) - Posts: 311 - 22/05/2009 02:16:54 290636 Link 0 |
fearnua u seem very confident on headford doing the business this year!! be very cautious of tuam they are on your side of d draw.. ye were on cloud 9 after beating bsloe in d champ last year and were brought back down to earth very quickly against kerills.. dont base a championship (especially at junior level) on form, its rather bout taking every game as it comes & playing every game like its a county final and putting ur body on the line for 60mins to scrap out a result.. i know cos we we thru it last yr and succeeded.. come back and make positive comments on headford when its confirmed that they are actually county champions.. fred201 (Galway) - Posts: 99 - 22/05/2009 13:10:15 290937 Link 0 |
fred201 - fearnua's post was in relation to Ballinasloe and no other club. He didn't say anything about the prospects of the team who beat Ballinasloe - that's all coming from you. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1307 - 22/05/2009 14:07:27 290999 Link 0 |
I wudnt read to much into leagues matches this year as there no more than challenges. Im sure ballinasloe will be a threat come championship. From knowing some of the players involved and heard trainin is goin well i feel tuam are the team to beat this year with a few of their players regraded to jun also. Gabriels cud put a run together also if they improve their football as there always fit and tough to play against. footinturf (Galway) - Posts: 35 - 22/05/2009 15:03:43 291064 Link 0 |
What evidence is there to support that Ballinasloe are converted soccer and Rugby players? Nothing wrong with lads having other hobbies sure didn JA and Mickey Donnellan try the oval ball. I was at the game last week and would agree that Ballinasloe would have to improve a lot to beat Headford although it was played on a day that would have suited converted Rugby players. jimfahy (Galway) - Posts: 81 - 22/05/2009 16:15:02 291167 Link 0 |
Ya it looks like Tuam Stars are the team to beat this year alright. They have had big wins so far in every game and seem to be flying it. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1307 - 22/05/2009 17:30:09 291246 Link 0 |
very diplomatic galwayman2! i reckon headford are the team to beat tho. the winning margin should have been alot bigger in ballinasloe on sunday. however as they found out last year against st kerrills a wet day can even things out big time in the championship so time will tell. techland (Galway) - Posts: 494 - 22/05/2009 18:41:17 291298 Link 0 |
Its a shame the league means nothing, its difficult to read much into these games as pointers to the championship, however every year there is a lot of talk about Ballinasloe breaking through, and every year they fail miserably in mounting any type of challenge, there seems to be a lack of team spirit that smaller parish teams have, headford looked too far strong for them on Sunday from what i could see. 6 or 7 points it doesnt matter. Tuam are the team to watch, a club going in the right direction again. Toast (Galway) - Posts: 44 - 22/05/2009 23:02:04 291482 Link 0 |
reading back over posts i did'nt mean my post to be uncomplimentary to st grellans,i know they are trying hard to improve and have suffered years of neglect, it would seem that they are slowly going in the right direction.last year headford and ballinasloe were on everyone's lips but athenry and kerrills stole the show. the same could happen this year, i would watch mountbellew and kilconnell closely while out west any one of four could win it, with spiddal or arran my tips. fearnua (Galway) - Posts: 311 - 23/05/2009 10:32:29 291592 Link 0 |
Fearnua dont no where you heard mountbellew have a good junior a team this year. They will end up in the bottom 3 in group 2 along with monevia and milltown and when senior championship kicks off they will lose players. This will also weaken other teams like tuam cortoon killererin caltra and milltown. blackyconnors (Galway) - Posts: 62 - 23/05/2009 12:18:09 291625 Link 0 |
