Rathangan

Well lads what do you think of Rathangan taking part in the RTE programme (Not even going to try spell it), I think its a great honour for them, hopefully they will do well, but if their recent championship performances are anything to go by Im not so sure. As Daytona pointed out on numerous occasions they seem to be favourites every year but always fall by the wayside. Down through the years they always had great players like Dockery, Fitzpatrick and Eddie Cusak.....Im amazed none of those lads went on to great things with Kildare, nowadays they have the Kennedys and John Mulpeter who are Kildare junior footballers and Declan Brennan and Brian Mullaly will no doubt represent Kildare seniors in future years, they also have a very good full back (his name slips my mind).....This is a great opportunity for Rathangan to silence their critics, but hopefully from their point of you it wont be a distraction on the real buisness, which is winning the Intermediate.....Good luck to them

I agree willie good luck to them theyv had a few tough years, underperforming mainly. I heard sos dowling is lined up to take over there next year so maybe thats what they need. The two lads brennan and mullally will be the important guys there next year.sos will get them up to senior id say. And im a monasterevin man so thats sayin a lot.......

Willie and Stevo, thanks for the nice comments on Rathangan I'd say it will be between us and Monasterevin to go up this year, if the lads play as a team that is.
Big coup for Monasterevin getting Paul Bealin he must have cost a few quid.

Willie I myself am a huge critic of any club who takes part in such projects as this. If rathangan were serious about winning intermediate then surely they should be concentrating on doing exaclty. They should be focusing on pre season (the most important part of the year) and the early stages of the league ( get off to a good start here and things could snow ball). i presume that whoever the managment are they can't be to happy to have their plans disrupted like this. It's a big circus which will take a toll on players preperation for a tilt at intermediate.

While not 100% sure, I dont think Rathangan have a management team in place for the coming year, If this is true I find it a bit bizarre, Burrowman can you throw some light on this???

Willie, at this stage there is no manager in place they are waiting on a final decision, as for Daytona I'd be surprised if he had anything decent to say.

It will give the club great exposure and has a great buzz around the town which is what we needed badly we all thought we would get a flood of new players when all these houses were built in Rathangan but we only really got three and they have all married local girls.

Any truth in the rumor that Monasterevin are training from Tuesday night like ourselves they are desperate for a bit of silverwear.

Burrowman i have plenty of decent things to say. But i won't brown nose. I always post my opinions. Now as for my previous post it goes for every club apart from rathangan. which would you prefer burrowman? An intermediate title at the end of the year or to appear in a television show? i think that answers itself. The point I was making is that with all the publicity and circus like stuff that will go with this celebrity thing players will lose focus on pre season training and the start of the league. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail and so. As for starting to train so early in the year it's madness. Janurary is time enough. Lads need a break. Training for so long without a proper game could lead to the losing interest. Or burn out in other words.

Burrowman, while im not disagreeing with you, but from what I have seen and heard about Rathangan, ye dont need an influx of players, in a previous post I named a few lads who are among the best players at intermediate level, my own opinion is that these lads need the right manager to come in, lay his cards on the table, take no bull...t from nobody and ye have a great chance of making the breakthrough.....correct me if im wrong Burrowman but is there a problem with player power in there?? There is no player bigger than the club, people should not forget that.

As for this Celebrity thing, I actually agree with Daytona, its all fine getting this exposure on TV and stuff like that, and I am looking forward to it, hopefully they will do well, but their focus must be winning the Intermediate championship

Fair enough flour man I stand corrected. Obviously they had a strong management team who didn't let the circus disrupt focus etc. Will ye win it next year Flourman? Do you think the yee are favourates?

daytona im not a rathangan man but i dont think rathangan will win it next year after playing against them myself this year i think they are seriously overated, in my opinion the intermediate is between monasterevin, jtb, kill, raheens and nurney.

I'd throw maynooth in their aswell. It should be a tightly contested championship this year all the same. Six teams that will fancy there chances of winning it.

Cant see Maynooth making any impact to be honest, JTB maybe, Kill as an outside bet, but I will go with Monasteravan

Monasterevin should be there or there abouts. But I think Maynooth are the team to beat. Who knows maybe Rathangan will suprise us!!

maynooth will make no impact at all, fact. jtb are my favs with nurney as serious dark horses.,on another note think moorefield will reclaim the senior next year and two mile hse to beat straffan in the junior final.

Nurney and JTB could fall at the first hurdle. Two average at best teams in regards to intermediate. Maynooth and Monasterevin for me.

Lads, as the boys pointed out there is a big big problem with a click of players in Rathangan and that has to be the number one prioroty to sort out.
As for the winners of next years championship, my money is on JTB< I hate to say it but Nurney were the poorest team we played this year I know their manager left/was asked to leave not before it but they were shocking against us.

I wont rule out the auld enemy Monasterevin either.

Here is one for everybody to think about what would you think of going back to a one game one rsult in the champioship and get rid of the league foma, I think this might improve the standard of games.

burrowman nurney were bad against rathangan but that was the only match they lost and as you said they got rid of their manager a week before that match and when they played us(kilcullen) i was very impressed by them and expect them to be a serious proposition under former galway all ireland winner steven kinneavy next year who i rate as one of the best managers around.
