a number of things most notably local rivaly during the forties and fifties when the two counties were at the top of their game. I would say it also goes back to 51 or 52 sometime im not sure when exactly, but a mass card was sent to the entire louth team after they lost to meath in a leinster final or first round. That was the general jist of that story.

I generally think most counties dont like meath in the country not just louth

would nt say louth people hate meath footballers but a bitter rivalry did develop as pointed out earlier in the 1950 s particularly in drogheda were the southern boundaries of the town straddle the meath border and the famous black flags were hung out of meath houses around this area when louth played in a final in croke park then the mass card incident took place also heard first hand from people who were stoned on ther bicycles while returning through meath from croke park in 57 small incidents like these im sure helped to stoke the flames of annimosity rivalry in sport is a great thing particularly local gaa rivalry once it doesnt go too far and great craic can be had in the local pubs of south drogheda when meath play louth and long may it continue once its all in good sport an lu abu
