I have to agree with maryellen on this one. I believe Ballinsloe is the worst club by a long way in the county. In fairness to Glynsk it is a relatively small club with a limited enough base to pick from. B'sloe however is one of the largest towns in the county and yet both its football and hurling teams are wallowing in Junior A and realistically will be for many years to come. If you compare it to Athenry,Loughrea and Tuam these all have senior clubs in one code. While Tuam will never be a force in hurling both Athenry and Loughrea have made great strides on the footballing side in recent years. B'sloe really need to get their act together.

The Sloe is a pure disaster when it comes to hurlin, not too bothered about the football meself, but you'd think given its size and geographic location in the county, it should be able to hold its own within Galway. There's too many other sports vying for peoples attention there, Rugby, Golf, Soccer and the usual premiership lemmings we all have to endure and added to that, the inhabitants don't seem too bothered about anything, nevermind hurling, ie the place is filthy and rundown and nobody seems to mind!

you havnt got a clue about bsloe, the area which the town has to choose from is small while calta have half of bsloe 2pick from and the other side pearses roscommon have the other side of the town to choose from.so look into it b4 you go putting bsloe down.

With all due respect milk, I'm from Ballinasloe and explain this to me, why should a town with a population of around 5000 struggle to produce a serious hurling team? Don't see what this has to do with any clubs in the hinter land. Look at other towns with smaller populations such as Loughrea, Athenry, Gort & Portumna, they seem to manage it fine surrounded by other clubs???

TVH its people like you that are the problem with towns like b'sloe. If your from b'sloe like you say you are why dont you get involved with the hurling in the town. Instead of running it down!!!!

Ballinasloe won under age club of the year last year and have won more this year than last. They have also come to the aid of struggling neighbours by allowing them play in the suck valley league.
Being a town is not an advantage, along with a town comes other distractions such as other sports and social activities. For country clubs whose pick can span for miles and miles the only distraction from the mundane life of school/work and farming is the local GAA club and the odd village dance!
