Mickey Harte and Aussie Rules

Why has mickey got a problem with irish lads getting a chance to become professional athletes. Its great to see these lads get this chance that they would never get here. If it does not work out they can come back and will enhance our game. So why this chip mickey?

legend that he is, in my opinion its about time he shut up. Broken Record. Must have killed him to see Sean Cav as captain!

He is totaly right to be against aussie rules. We have lost considerable talent and it is a total disrespect to our association.

not at all Bald Eagle - i think Liam is right its time Mickey dropped the subject - who can blame these guys from going to Australia or anywhere else for that matter. For what its worth i think Boylan picked Cavanagh delibrately as captain for 2 reasons:- one to make sure he went (he may not necessarily have went had he not been captain) and secondly I think it was done to irk Mickey slightly.

He is speaking complete 100% sense.

Judging by the popularity of Soccer on here can you imagine if the GAA had an official link-up with UEFA or FIFA? This is exactly the same a thing with the AFL, we are positively facilitating the AFL guys coming over and cherry picking out best talent. At no stage does he begrudge lads going over and making a go of it. He's trying put forward soem positive steps that the GAA can take to keep the talent here.

Can some of you not comprehend what you're reading?

I think hes afraid that we are going to loose some of our best players to the AFL but theirs nothing he can do about it, lets be honest its the GAA'S problem i no were i would rather be. doing pre season training in cold wet ireland or in lovely australia as a full time paid athlete, hard call

Mickey seriously needs to quit sticking his nose in. He makes it sound like its the end of the world. Gaelic football and hurling lose more players to rugby and soccer every year than it does to Aussie Rules. The GAA has no business in preventing players from making a career for themselves in the AFL or for that matter doing whatever they want to do with their lives.

It is a load of rubbish and it will be scrapped in time. And there taking our best talent micket is right . The aussies kicked us around the place in 06 and the reason they where good this year because they knew it was on its knees. Wait and you will see over the next few years.

When is the last time the GAA has lost a top talent or prospect to Soccer or Rugby? Okay possibly Niall Mc Ginn but he hadn't proven anything yet in GAA

Can't put my finger on it meself, i always had great admiration Harte and still do but i think he should give up the ghost about the Aussie rules. I know everyones entitled to their opinion and i didn't have a problem with Mickey expressing his the first time but i can't understand why he kept it up, especially seen as how Cavanagh was the captain and played very well in the process.

I don't think Mickey should come out and apologize but i think he should just come out and congratulate the boys for their achievements, just to show that hes not a bitter man because i certainly don't think he should be painted with that brush but he will if he keeps up his vociferous hatred of the series.

The man gets asked the question in every interview he does, so what do you want him to do? Lie?

Come on Liam, you have strong opinions on many topics, not all of them popular, but you are entitled to them. Why should Mickey be any different?

And as for killing him that Cavanagh was captain, I don't think it will have annoyed him at all. Harte doesn't have a particularly close relationship with any of his players (and I don't mean that in a negative way). From what I understand, there are no long chats at training or on the phone with any of them. Unless they need his help, he keeps his distance, and lets them do their thing. So long as they are performing well for Tyrone, he really doesn't get involved.

Fair play lad. I can't stand the game either and feel it should be scrapped too, but i am getting tired of Mickey going on about it too!!!!

IT'S A DISGRACE THAT OUR GAA PLAYERS THAT HAVE BEEN TRAINED AND DEVELOPED BY THE GAA ARE THEN STOLEN FROM US BY A BUNCH OF AUSSIES WHO DONT EVEN RESPECT THEIR TALENT. WHAT'S MORE IS, PEOPLE KEEP SAYING THAT MORE GAA PLAYERS ARE BEING LOST TO SOCCER. HOWEVER, THEY ARE SIGNED UP TO A SOCCER TEAM AT ABOUT 14-17 WHEN THEY HAVEN'T FULLY BENEFITED FROM THE GAA. IT IS THE PLAYERS THAT ARE 19-23 THAT ARE SKILLED AND THOSE ARE THE ONES BEING TAKEN.

Yes Mayoegian - but stop shouting. If a young lad devotes his life to his club and gives maybe 8 hours a week to them for all his young and teen life then they should own him. Simply cos they have (maybe) taught him the basics of football or hurling. Never mind that he gave up his own time with his friends to attend - never mind how many soakings he got - never mind how many injuries he had. He is indebted to his club - for life! How dare he take up an opportunity to sample a different culture, challenge himself - as a person and a sportsman - maybe make a few bob. All those coaching hours and the ungrateful fecker goes off to Oz! How dare he take a risk and leave his family behind when he HAS FULLY BENEFITTED FROM THE GAA............
