Best night to go out over Christmas?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think Christmas day/night is the best, a few cold ones during the day with your loved ones then off to the local that night with all your friends and everyone from nearby - the craic is always 90!! (if your local is open that is!!) Boxing night usually quality as well, new years eve is over-rated, everywhere is always too packed and its too dear!!

Have to say mine is the 23rd. Usually off work on a half day that day, the Christmas buzz is great & it's my birthday. Ho ho ho!

New years day. The annual charity swim where you freeze your B***S off, a nice hot bowl of soup, a quick shower, then on the lash for the rest of the day.

Just watch out for stuff going on fire. I believe that can be a problem at KOL concerts.

LIAMWILKINSTOWN - Take it easy, it hardly matters what we call it.. how about - 'The Day After Christmas'? I doubt you rush to mass on that day to celebrate the feast of St Stephen. In fact, it is an insult to him that we all go on the rip - and sometimes kill other on his feast day/night!!

Speaking of Stephen's Day there is a tradition in some counties of dressing up as Rent Boys - whats all that about?
Jayo- TSK TSK !! The nocturnal activities of our denizens are their own business.
In Leitrim, we do not call the age-old tradition Wren boys, in this locality we are referred to as "Mummers".
Annually, in our parish, the GAA club continue the old tradition, as a means of raising funds for worthwhile LOCAL causes. This involves a repertoire of music, dancing, solo singing and solo instrumental.
The "King of the Mummers" will have the itinerary decided, transport and fodder for the day organised long in advance and scoffing of sly scoops is frowned upon.
A number of publicans, however, are noted for their generosity and accordingly 3/4 pit stops are allowed to recharge the batteries. This is seen by the premises involved as a significant "scoop" as it generally kicks off the ould sing song for the day with a bit of a head start.
The "Mummer King" role is hugely significant, as he must not bow, in the run-up, to solicitations from out-lying territories seeking visitations without guaranteed revenue therefrom. All in all, it's a right ould day, as you meet folk you may not have seen in 12 months, culminating with a reprise in our own local.
Sick the next day or what??
Apologies for length of post .....

God isn't it unbelievable how many people in this little country of ours get so caught up in minor little matters such as whether the day after Christmas is called St. Stephen's Day or Boxing Day. Does it really matter, does anybody really care, seriously we are the only country on this planet (well the 26 counties anyway) who call it St. Stephen's Day. The reason for that is because we are such a great little holy country, and rather than following the pagan English by calling it Boxing Day, we called it after some saint to show how great and holy we are!!

156364 Christmas eve down the local by far the best day of the year. Yer man that owns it does not have any wife and kids so he is never in a rush home and because there is usually a big crowd he likes to make hay that night, so we usually get a late one...it his fault that I have not been at Christmas mass in 12 years...

benny id say your ma or mrs (what ever the case may be) does some scoulding about this fella when all you do is push your dinner around the plate.... AND FECKIN DRINK EH!!!

The only country that call it boxing day is the United Kingdom. It is known as St.Stephens day in a number of other countries besides Ireland.
