to be honest we have also been producing players for a hundred years the under age structure is great in dublin up to minor when it then falls apart the main problem is they dont play enough games its a disgrace simple as that hipster (Dublin) - Posts: 2509 - 06/12/2008 11:37:19 158450 Link 0 |
What do you mean by "they dont play enough games"? At minor club level is it? monkey (Westmeath) - Posts: 223 - 06/12/2008 13:06:34 158491 Link 0 |
lets be realistic now its not practical for schools in dublin to combine given the large pupil sizes evident in the majority with the only example i can tink of being the fingal area. if u join some of the better schools together one who r already in the hogan cup you are clearly given them a serious advantage over a school who just has it own pupils juicy (Meath) - Posts: 402 - 08/12/2008 23:47:52 159771 Link 0 |
yes monkey at minor club level the season starts in feb and finishes in may then they do the exams while lads who dont play a summer league that no one cares about and then there is a two month break for july and august only for the championship to start in sept . so as you can see most minors will only play ten to twelve games so how can you expect them to develop we need competitive minor leagues where they play at least 16 to 20 league games and then they play the championship . a lot of young lads start playing soccer and rugby and now even basketball where they are getting these games . and as for the schools it would be a good idea to join schools up where they are struggling to field teams and believe me there is a lot of schools like that i know u13s and u14s who played for the schools u18 team so thats where schools joining together will help improve the standard. hipster (Dublin) - Posts: 2509 - 09/12/2008 15:55:38 160251 Link 0 |
Could someone give their first 15 please? What are the expectations this year? galoping gazele (None) - Posts: 174 - 17/12/2008 19:34:05 166611 Link 0 |
hipster, that does not sound like an ideal scenario but you have to recognize that the quality of football that was played in the Brigids-Na Fianna final was far better than the football in any other county minor final this year. some of the scores were fantastic - McIntyre scored a real gem from out on the right wing, and the wing-back landed a monster from miles out! monkey (Westmeath) - Posts: 223 - 18/12/2008 18:33:31 167612 Link 0 |
Monkey the problem is the players are spread around to many schools and they dont have a proper league structure hipster (Dublin) - Posts: 2509 - 18/12/2008 22:15:08 167796 Link 0 |

Leinster MFC 1st Round v Louth in Drogheda on 18th April. johnjo (Dublin) - Posts: 29 - 03/03/2009 11:57:21 222765 Link 0 |
yeah johnjo sure after seeing the u-21's why would Louth bother turning up? You started the thread assuming baker was a typical anti dub. Well it's cos of people like you and your cockiness that people are anti dubs. Dublin haven't done anything at minor for 6 years now and you're already talking about them having to face Laois or Longford. Your assumption for this is because of the performance of Louths U-21 team. How in the blue hell can you judge a minor team after seeing there u-21 team??? That just shows how little you know. It's like comparing hurling and football. blueisthecolour (Louth) - Posts: 151 - 03/03/2009 20:52:37 223359 Link 0 |
Think its a fair assumtion to make. Your U21s could not physically compete with us last sunday week. Your seniors could not physically compete with us last summer. Both Louth sides did very well and played excellent football up to half time in both these games. However Dublins superior strength and conditioning told in the 2nd half and we pulled away very easily in both games. I know that the Dublin minor side will be big & strong and well conditioned. Add to this a reasonable level of football ability and I have every reason to believe we should progress to the next round. I dont know anything about your minor side and maybe you have great footballers, but Dublins strength & power should see us through in a 50/50 game. johnjo (Dublin) - Posts: 29 - 04/03/2009 10:52:38 223685 Link 0 |
