Carrick v Faughs senior final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Wat way do people feel this game will go??? carrick have good fast forwards against inexperienced blayney backs and carrick have beaten blayney twice this year already. in saying this though the experience of francis moore and adrian irwin returning for the faughs could give them the edge.

Think Carrick will win it, they'll be more hungry for it and they need it more.

Carrick would be favourites but if they don't learn the lessons of the county final then they will be on the end of another narrow defeat.

Think Blayney will have too much class and know how for carrick in the final.they have been grinding out results in the last few weeks with practically a second string team and usually the further they go the harder they are to stop.Still think carrick are a team for the future but just dont have the know how to win in finals yet.the experience of Dermot McArdle and Kieran Tavey will be the telling factor on Sunday

went to the final in drumhowan yesterday which ended blayney 1.6 carrick 0.9 . was a large crowd there on a very cold day . blayney had wind in 1st half and were 5 pts up at ht . k tavey scored 1.3 a peno and 3 frees . blayney didnt score for last 20 mins as carrick layed siege to the blayney goals . a callan scored 0.4 and s downey 0.3 nearly all frees . carrick missed a 45 ,. a free and a shot from play to win it in the last few mins but a draw was probably a fair result . it was a tough hard hitting game with blanket defence the order of the day and scores from play hard to get . replay is in emyvale under lights on wed nite .

Was announced at the game yesterday that Drumhowan play a derry team in the ulster junior final next sunday in brewster park at 2pm followed by cross v ballinderry under lights at 3.45pm - a good double header to be involved in

Thanks Frank for the report on the game. Am i the only person that thinks it is a poor show that the last results posted in the results section are for games played on November 2nd?

Was at the game in emyvale last night, Carrickmacross won by 2 points in the end, with both sides having chances to win it. Overall it was an below average game. 3 people sent off with Jazza & Stephen Lynch sent off for Castleblayney with Mark Downey been sent off for Carrick. Well done Carrick. Big crowd at it.

On another point will this defeat set Castleblayney back?

Jakestevens, not sure how the defeat will set Blayney back. If anything they will take a great deal from the run to the league final. They where missing the following players last night - Hanratty, Aidan Ward, Gary Ward, Marty McElroy, Stig Duffy, Jim McHugh, Ryan Treacy, Kealan Duffy, Damien Hughes, Paddy Mallon. Thats 10 players who played senior championship this year and last. All them players will be back next year plus they have uncovered a whole load of players in the last few weeks - Daly, Lynch, McGuinness, Paddy Tavey, Hill etc.

While they can't play them all, its no harm having options and strenght in depth.

The bigger question from last night will this push Carrick on to win a championship? How they know how to win a big final and you could tell from their recations that it meant a lot to them.

On a footnote, how bad is referee's getting in the county. The two games where spoilt by poor decision making against both sides.

you comment that the game was below average .what do u want on the 26th nov 4 weeks before christmas i really enjoyed it with some great scores and a fight to the death nip and tuck right to the end what more can you ask for i seen alot worse in the middle of the summer so give these lads abit of credit . well done 2 both teams .

as for the refereeing was the whistle stuck in his throath

Have to say I agree with hithard, thought it was an absorbing game considering the time of year. Positives for both teams, Carrick making the breakthrough at senior level and Blayney unearthing and blooding some new talent. Great to see a large crowd at it too....

Although it might have been the 26th of November, the conditions last night were perfect for a football match, I t was a close game but from a neutral point of view, I thought both team's made alot of basic errors, I asked you hithard to name any player that played to his potential, I would get it hard to name 3 players from either side who played to their standards.

Freddie whilst I agree with your opinion with regards ref's in Monaghan, I think your clutching at straws saying that Blayney were missing 10, If that was the case sure every club could say the same, I think Carrickmacross were missing 8 who played championship football this year or last year, maybe someone could verify this.

I'd like to take u up on 2 things. Firstly last night may have been a perfect night for watching football, I'd say it was hardly perfect for playing, a heavy late November pitch and a stiff cross breeze. Watch Cross and Ballinderry on Sunday and I'd say u will hardly see a classic either. Winter football tends to be low scoring dour stuff but in my opinion great to watch, so its tough to say that hardly anyone played up to their potential.

Secondly I don't think freddie was using the absence of all the Blayney players as an excuse for losing last night. Earlier on in the thread u wondered if the defeat would set Blayney back. I think from a Blayney point of view the last month or so will be viewed very positively, 5 tough championship like games and 4 or 5 new names coming to the fore, lads who otherwise may not have gotten there chance for another 12-18 months.

is mise

didnt get to the replay wed nite so cant comment on that game . think in fairness most neutrals will be happy that carrick won never having won it before and having come up just short in the co final . it means next year latton , clontibret , carrick and blayney will all have very realistic ambitions of winning the championship which is good for club football . ballybay truagh and inniskeen and scotstown will be all relegation candidates

one thing no one has picked up on re blayney has been their woeful disciplinary record - they have picked up 11 red cards alone in the past 8 weeks . dont know what the numbers are for earlier in the yr but im sure they got a few more . no team can expect to win anything with 15 red cards dished out over a season . are they been pumped up to much or are they just undisciplined

well done to the killanny club on winning 6 underage titles this yr - a great record a few yrs after the club nearly folded

best of luck to the emyvale ladies and drumhowan on sunday - hopefully they bring home 2 more cups to the farney county

In addition to the few Blayney lads that were missing you also had an unfit Stephen McGeough and Dermot McArdle. I would suggest that a few of those names being mentioned by freddie are silly and some may struggle to make the B team. However overall the Faughs have had quite a good run and it will be of great benefit to them. The disciplinary record has been poor but I think the Faughs have been too nice in the past and it is time they stood up to the rough house tactics that can often be applied against them. I believe the future of the club is in great order. They truly showed thier mantle and desire when they were dropped down to 14 men on Wednesday night. I really do not think that carrick will be a force come next year. They may struggle in the league as they have survived winning star games in previous years but the likelyhood is they will have 5 or 6 drafted into the county squad for next season and I would fear for them. As I recall the last time they got relegated from senior was when they had quite a few lads on the county panel. Any suggestions? by the way wll done to Carrick on your first senior trophy. And this can only be good for football in Monaghan.

Fair play to Carrick, this is a great result for them and another stepping stone in the development of their team. An excellent year all round for them, its the result I thought would happen and it sets them up very well for a new challenge for the championship next year. It will be an exciting battle for Mick Duffy next year with at least 4 teams all having serious hopes of winning it.

Frank Annyalla, who was the 11 red cards in the last 8 weeks? Since they exited the championship and had no lined that I can remember they have lost - Irwin & Moore V Clontibret, Ward V Doohamlet, McElroy V Clontibret, Jazza & Lynch (2nd yellow) V Carrick. Thats 6, along way off 11. It isn't ideal but in all those games the opposition had men lined as well. In this time they played two Junior b finals and an U21 final and didn't have anyone lined. Why let the truth get in the way of a good story!

Monboy, what is silly about the list of names? Name the so called Junior B rejects. All of them players played championship football this year bar Damien Hughes and Gary Ward. Both where unavailable for large parts of year for different reasons.
