go and have a look on youtube of dublin v tyrone in toronto and have a look at peter canavans reaction to a little slap he got of one of the dubs, mick galvin i think it was, great player was canavan but hard me backside

Yes, a very brave action alright by the much older Galvin on a 19 year old.

Canavan was hard as nails. I remember Larry Tompkins (another very hard man) describing him as being 'as brave as a lion', and he was right. Hard to imagine any footballer taking so much abuse, although I will admit that he gave plenty himself at both club and county level.

Tim Crowley was another tough nut! I have memories of him bursting out of defence with hurleys breaking off him! I wonder what he makes of the lads that succeeded him!

Francie Bellew, Damien Burke and Matthew Clancy. The fact that the latter two are ridiculously undertalented is irrelevant! :)

Alot of people have gone for Mick Lyons and Liam Harnan type players who were well able to dish it out and were very tough opponents. I think the true tough cookies are the boys who have had to take it all the way up from underage at both club and county.. Peter Canavan is a prime example
