Francie Bellew of recent times. Caulfield had a real reputation, more hard than tough.. Brolly (Monaghan) - Posts: 4472 - 17/11/2008 16:01:17 143136 Link 0 |

yep JohnMitchel ur right, surprisingly enough, ciaran mcdonald is actually a pretty tough character, dont think he be the toughest of all time but he enjoys a tackle as much as the next guy... McGeeney is prob the toughest of recent times... TheMaster (Mayo) - Posts: 16187 - 17/11/2008 16:14:49 143161 Link 0 |
Barney(Tony) Maher Laois/Leinster midfielder between years of 87/95 was one tough man. BigJohn.6_8 (Galway) - Posts: 704 - 17/11/2008 16:31:19 143194 Link 0 |
Have to agree with Sandman in relation to Mick Lyons and Brendan Lynskey- two seriously tough players in their day. In the modern game I guess Francie Bellew stands out and in hurling I would have to go for Kilkenny full back Noel Hickey or even Tommy Walsh. galwaycelt (Galway) - Posts: 307 - 17/11/2008 16:32:55 143197 Link 0 |

Kevin Moran seemed tough enough playin for dublin. Any clips I ever saw was him playin was with 2 torn hamstrings and a battered head. Modern day big Seamie O Neill for Roscommon. Hurling it would have to Sylvie but Noel Hickey is awful hard. paddyja (Galway) - Posts: 9 - 17/11/2008 18:17:04 143321 Link 0 |

i see all the nominations here are from the 70's or later, i reckon there were were tougher men playing for a hundred years before that, before T.V., yellow cards, tickings or appeals. dhorse (Laois) - Posts: 11374 - 17/11/2008 23:17:43 143594 Link 0 |
