About time volunteers, club coaches, underage coaches and the grass roots stood up against blatant player power. If you support Gerald Mc Carthy and his kind simply log in and write ``Go on Gerald ``to this thread. The so called issues with the Cork County Board are red herrings from players who think the world at large owes them a living because they wear a county jersey. Thank you so much to the people who have indicated support for Gerald .There is a genuine cause here from my own perspective and concern for the future of our club players and clubs in every county The public and a certain type of intercounty player need to realise that there is no justification for excess monetary reward or player power within the G.A.A. Fact is that the peak part of the G.A.A. Year via the media is late June to late September,it is a very short``televised`` season.Media profiles seem to have imbued an element of our county players with a false impression of their own importance, aided and abetted by the G.P.A. So lets keep this support rolling in for Gerald Mc Carthy, show these presumptious players in all counties that the "game``,the members, and the Association were around long before them, and will still be around long after their gone. Gerald Mc Carthys stance is a valid one,it is a stance that may in the longer term save our games. So lets see it for Gerald--``go on Gerald Mc Carthy``. This action by the cork players is an absolute disgrace, Gerald Mcarthy is a fine upstanding decent man, salt of the earth kind of guy. He has had to listen to all sorts of snidey comments and remarks by some players in the squad. Now thats just not nice for him and his family to have to put up with. It should stop immediately and these players should be given a lesson in common decency, courtesy and most of all respect. Gerald has released a statement today and it is very well spoken regarding the whole affair, everyone is wrong bar the players. It takes more than the players to win an all ireland, physios, coaches, hurley men, water men,i could go on.The players are a cog in a wheel, albeit a vital one,However,if all the other people involved in the set up of a county team decided to withdraw their services it would also be a shambles,so therefore the players would not be able to take the field sucessfully. They are quick to forget this and also fail to acknowledge this on the bigger scale. Every county has the same outlook at the beginning of the year and that is to try and winn an all ireland but, it takes a massive effort from everyone pulling in the same direction and it sickens me to see this stupid nonsense from a bunch of players who think they can do whatever they like once a decision they dont like goes against them. I have had plenty of decisions go against me in my life that would have put a lesser man down but i got back up and took it on the chin and got on with it,never ever did i go on strike or lay down my sword and fall over. Please can you think about what ye are doing lads for the sake of your county and your own careers and for the sake of all the young kids who look up to ye and consider ye to be heroes of cork hurling. Please. stranded (UK) - Posts: 408 - 08/11/2008 14:23:07 136727 Link 0 |
Time you went on strike, Stranded. Lol, just kidding.......!!! Supporting Gerald McCarthy here, too. Not one, even one of the present day Cork hurlers (and certainly none of the Limerick ones) could double on a ball in full flight in the air like Gerald McCarthy. He was a joy to behold. He'd have Sean Og's hand gone 40 yards with the sliothar, before he could even say "Strike"....... shoulderghost (Limerick) - Posts: 863 - 09/11/2008 01:17:23 136989 Link 0 |
Hurling needs Gerald to win this one. It's as simple as this: 1= Clubs elect Co. Boards; 2= Co Boards pick selectors; 3= Selectors pick players. playfair (Cork) - Posts: 4 - 10/11/2008 16:57:32 137782 Link 0 |
I think that it is a disgrace that the footballers do not join the hurlers on their protest. When the footballers had their stand off last year the hurlers joined them. Why not return the favour. Pal (None) - Posts: 76 - 10/11/2008 17:37:18 137833 Link 0 |
