Tyrone County Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Correct there CS, there were very little fisty cuffs or dirty digs in the actual match and it was quite entertaining. However the headbutting incidents were shocking and have no part in the GAA although they do go on more often than is reported. Ulster club football (and hurling) can be quite filthy at times. especially in Antrim. I don't understand this regarding my own county because when some of these players pull on the Saffron jersey they are suddenly transformed into pussycats who wouldn't say boo to a goose.

G.A.A_Fan if you think that was a dirty game off football then i can only assume you havent seen too many gaa matches, barring the already highlighted incident it was a hard game off football but i wouldnt say it was dirty

Please read the post before you go of on one ! I never commented on the game I commented on the behaviour of the Dromore manager and the no.5 of Clonoe. Their action's were appalling as was the non action of the umpire who watched it all and actually pilled the clonoe player away.

What you mean the tyrones track record speaks for itself??? you seem to be jumping the gun abit when your critising a footballs teams discipline....let me remind you about paul galvin and dara o'se, both involved in incidents this year that were a disgrace,

yes mcginn was wrong but it happens in football, kerry have possibly the worst discipline record this year so ifi was a kerry man id be keeping my mouth shut...

In response to Bocerty
I have no interest at all into getting involving in one of these slagging matches, but what I will say is that obviously your viewpoint would be biased because you are from Tyrone, I stand over my assertion that the match was dirty throughout on the part of both teams, now there was few if any yellow cards because what was happening was basically was that if somebody kicked the ball into a player with forward momentum he would be cynically fouled by different players throughout the game, thus unabling the referee from issuing yellow cards, anyway I felt the referee was intimidated from what seemed like a very hostile atmosphere from the players and the sideline. Now with regard to you questioning my credentials I have seen a massive amount of football matches in my lifetime and this year especially now that I am involved in coaching juveniles and I certainly hope none of them watched that Tyrone county final and the manner and cynicism in which it was played not to mention the obvious incident at the end of normal time.

G.A.A_Fan - i was not trying to instigate a slanging match so apologies if it appeared that way - i was merely pointing out that in my opinion it was not a dirty game of football. I also like to think that though I am from Tyrone my opinion on the match was not biased - i like to think I call it as I see it whether it be a tyrone game or any other county. Maybe it looked worse on the tv than it did in person but as I said having been at the match I did not think it was dirty.

Your comments about your juvenile team though is a bit naive - if your lads are to win a county title they may have to resort to the same tactics we saw on Sunday. People refer to football nowadays as 'win at all costs' in actual fact if you think about it most teams go out with the attitude of 'don't lose at all costs' now you may find that statement a bit odd but very few teams take risks anymore - on Sunday for example Clonoe in the space of 2 passes went from Dromore's goalmouth back to the half way line - they would rather have went the whole way back than risk losing possession with a forward pass, and Clonoe were not alone in this.

I do quite a bit of coaching myself and like yourself I thought i could win matches by playing open expansive and sometimes risky football however i soon learned if you go out with that attitude you only end up being hammered. Other teams were fouling at every opportunity they knew how to win easy frees and work the referee so i soon learned the only way to beat them was to join them. And sad though that it is thats the way football is now its result driven not performance driven - what you saw on Sunday is fairly typical of most county finals. I thought the standard of football on Sunday was quite poor and they are the two best senior teams in Tyrone and yet when you think about it we are All-ireland senior champions and to confuse the matter even more Clonoe do not have one player on the county senior or minor panel!!!!!!!

That's taken on board Bocerty, at the end of the day you were at the match and I wasn't so in fairness you would be able to make a better judgment on that respect, I suppose managers and players will certainly push the rules to the limit in order to ensure victory so I think that the fundamental problem in Gaelic football nowadays is with its rules, I think they seriously need to be reviewed, goodluck with the coaching!
