Croke park set to get a roof?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

In reply to Mr.Wolfetone. If your county reached an all-ireland final which would you prefer, a seat in Croke Park on wet cold day getting drinched or a seat in the local beside the fire? I think I know which I'd prefer. I was at 5 games in croker this year Including the Tyrone Dublin one which was one of two "monsoons" to hit Croke Park on match day. I'm sure the Tyrone fans didn't mind the rain!! Whats next and electric blanky and cushions for your arse! Theres a recession in the country and the stats show that about 1 in 5 games in Croke Park will be on wet days. No need of roof.

Was on that tour on friday, no mention of a roof then. No need either if you ask me, a bit unworkable too with the current layout. In the words of victor meldrew, "I Don't Believe You"

i think this is a terrible idea. for one its not needed. croke park showed numerous times over the summer that it can cope with whatever nature throws at it. it would just give an advantage to teams that play their home games there, eliminating the great equaler that is the weather.

retractable roofs are fine for tennis, but not for GAA

As I have already said in other posts, GAA HQ is a ripoff. Food, Churchmen lock hard all have their hands out for the few bob on a match day.
Build a new ground in say Cavan or Meath so that us people that go to Crokepark ofter can cut our travel expense.
It would not matter to Kerry people because the don't go to Croke park that often

Ah sure it is our home ground. Hmmm Cavan havent even seen the new Croke Park. Anyway it would be the ideal setting for Liam's wedding as we are all invited.

To borrow a phrase from D'Unbelievables 'It'd be a lovely little country if you could only roof it'

Well Tom Smith I'm completely with you once again on the prices issue. The hard earned money us Kerrymen are forced to pay for a train ticket, a match ticket, accommodation etc. several times a year is a disgrace.

But I disagree with moving Croke Park to Cavan or Meath. Surely it would be easier to move it to Wembley or Twickenham as I hear the flights to London are for half nothing! We wouldn't get caught by the "lockhards" then when good law abiding citizens like ourselves have to park our cars. And I here the "meals on wheels" service over there is second to none, we wouldn't have to "fork" out much money for food.

Are you in agreement? Should we write to Nicky Brennan to move the All Ireland Finals to London?

I agree with Ulsterman that the stadium looks unfinished. I am sure the problem is not without solution. Should they ever get around to erecting a proper stand at the "Hill 16" it will eliminate the ever present wind problems that spoil some games. The roof idea is nice but not financially viable.

Apparently roofing over Croker is a no-no. Aside from planning restrictions blocking any more natural sunlight (whadda ???) affects the grass. Sort of recall the guide person saying something to that effect when doing the Croke Park Tour thing

I know there are a few very good viable reasons against but look at it this way, its one of the best stadiums in the world, why don't we finish it off properly? It could be truly magnificent! But that's just my opinion!
