Kyle Coney for an All Star

dellboypolecat - in reference to your bar stool supporter jibe let me assure you I am far from it - though i did notice you were posting yesterday during the Tyrone SFC Final, i would therefore assume you were sitting in the comfort of your armchair watching on TG4 because you couldnt be bothered to attend the match in person - and you have the brass neck to call me a bar stool supporter. I actually went to the bother of going to watch the match at Healy Park as a neutral I may add, so if your going to refer to me as a bar stool supporter at least have the brains not to post during an actual match and show yourself up to be the real armchair fan.

My opinion on Coney is exactly that - my opinion - i was only stating it not asking you to agree with it. I watched Coney in action yesterday and he did not exactly stand out as the best minor footballer in Tyrone (though an Ardboe man did say he was apparently ill all Saturday and again on Sunday morning so that might explain his indifferent display). I spoke to several people about Coney yesterday some of those were from Ardboe, and the consensus seemed to be along of the lines of what I said in an earlier post he is a showman not a grafter and while he is more than capable of some sublime football he can also be guilty of being too greedy.

By the way Coney did not win the all-ireland final for Tyrone on his own he was assisted by a whole team who put in as much if not more effort. I agree he is a very gifted footballer but like i say my fear his that he is being hyped up too much and that it could have a negative effect on his development as a footballer.

i meant to add to that last post that given the choice between Coney and Gavin Teague i would pick Teague every time - he is a real work horse and he took that Ardboe team by the scruff of the neck yesterday and hauled them back into that game.

I would agree with bocerty - the performance of gavin teague (particularly in the second half) of the minor final was a joy to watch. Again, if faced with the choice between the two, it would be gavin every time. His committment and attitude is first class - a role model for anyone.

OuchitsFrancie unless you know kyle, how can you call him childish, petulent and say that he has a lot of growing up to do??? you are all forgetting that this lad has only just turned 18yrs of age. give the lad a break and a bit of support instead!! but then again, jealousy brings out a bit of dislike too. none of you slabbers bad mouthing him would be fit to lace his boots!!

Bocerty i was not at the match for a personally reason. the teague statement yes he is a fine footballer .Why i metioned coney is the fact when tyrone came under pressure against mayo in replay he really showed scored a few fine points that i thought won it for them. You slating me for every comment think it is unfair i think but i will say you made a few good points yes. But i think he is a great young player ...

BOCERTY. i was not there for personel but not sure why you keep insulting me which is unfair .TEAGUE is a great young player but when tyrone where under pressure against mayo coney scored couple of important points that win the game for tyrone i thought .. But i must say you have made couple of good points along the way, however to say what you said to me i know nothing about the game i have coached and managed teams in underage like your selve .. but i make points when i mean about bar stool men is i know poeple from my club alone that will not follow there county team all year and then get tickets to the final and genuine fans miss out ..AND the same poeple that called for mickeys head on a weekend drunk on a bar stool .. i am one that goes and support them like coney and the canavaghs but am not writing to be insulted so give me a break , I am merely just making a point

well DELLBOY i am not a bar stool supporter so dont use that sweeping statement on every post. I am not saying Coney didnt do his bit for the minors - he is a super footballer but i would be reluctant to give him all the plaudits for Tyrone winning the All-Ireland final. In the drawn game he made some really poor decisions (yes I know he is only 18) but he kept making the same mistakes. On several occassions had he laid the ball off to a team mate a replay might not have been necessary. In the replay i thought our defence was outstanding especially our CHB and the corner back (no 4) and they deserve as much credit as Coney for winning the match.

I am not slating Coney here far from it he is a wonderful talent but i have seen minors like him before including one from my own club who won an Ulster minor title with Tyrone and he never kciked a ball for Tyrone since because like Coney he was hyped up as the next best thing to hit Tyrone football he started to believe the hype and it led to his downfall. I would say we are more likely to see Gavin Teague play for tyrone seniors than Kyle Coney but thats only a personal opinion.

bocerty & co - how many times have you men to be told, kyle coney hasnt fell for the hype and he certainly doesnt think he's the main man, for gods sake he's just an 18yr old that has all of a sudden been landed with all this pressure on him from others!! tv interviews, radio interviews, australians offering silly money for him etc etc a yr ago he was at school playing football as an innocent young fella and suddenly he has to deal with all of this tripe and people like you who are slating him isnt helping much. before all the hype about kyle and especially in the first half of this yr, kyle had been the outstanding young footballer in ireland, can you blame him for a few below par performances given all that has happened recently??

moortownspuds - your last post is in total agreement with what I have been trying to say and yet your giving off to me for saying it. You say he hasnt fallen for the hype and then your blaming the hype for below par performances - make up your mind which is it?????????

The hype is bound to get to him he is still only a lad - hopefully there are enough level headed guys around the Ardboe club to keep him focused Brian and Tommy would be good role models for him

bocerty what im saying is that he hasnt fallen for all this hype that he's the best thing since sliced bread - but on the other hand, the way others and the media are hyping him up is affecting his football. i know the lad and i believe his performances have been affected by all this, but he certainly isnt running round the place thinking he's a star. its hard to sit and read others slating him when they dont know him.

coney is nowere near as good as he is made out to be, in the first half of the minor game on sunday when omagh put it up to arbore he was nowhere to be found, the management had to move him away from the middle of the park because he was unwilling to go in for the dirty ball, he will defiantly not make it in australia never an allstar

glad kyle gave half a display in the county minor final replay in galbally. 7 points from play and only had an average game. kyle does what is needed when its needed and when it was needed in the second half today he kicked some brilliant points.

kyle coney is an unreal footballer a bit greed y sometimes but still unreal, he might be a bit light but sure what height is he 6'3 or 6'4 he will do alright in oz and then come back an even better player if he decides to come back an play 4 tyrone seniors.

For anybody to say Kyle Coney doesnt deserve an all star is just nuts! I knw minors dont get all stars but if they did he would fully deserve it. Look at the way he won the minor replay match on saturday he is an absolutely lethal player. Awful that he headin to australia cause he will be a big miss in Tyrone football, but what an opportunity.

Also Dkb-boiii to say good riddance ur like someone who is so jealous of kyle and id say u certainly cant kick a ball like he could. Anybody who actually disagrees that he is not a good footballer is obviously in cloud cuckoo!!

Really?

With all due respect to the big fella, he performed at close to his full potential on 2 occasions for the Minors - in the second half against Meath and the replay against Mayo. To be honest, if I had to select a Tyrone Minor player of year it has to be Petey Harte.

Yeah Petey Heart or Nial Mc Kenna would have been player of the year!
Will kyle be staying in ireland untill the new year to play in the ulster minor with ardboe?
