Great Players who will never win an All Ireland

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

was frank better than frankie donnelly or iggy jones dont think he was your argument is a little lightweight.

Having had the pleasure of seeing the three players mentioned, my opinion is that while Jones would be a deserving No. 1, he would have to be seen as a "selfish" type player.
McGuigan would have been miles ahead of Donnelly however, and not that far behind Jones.

My personal opinion, however biased, would be for Packy McGarty - one of the games greats and a thorough gentleman to boot. Was here at a funeral this week and while in the upper 70's looks mid 60's.

good post boxty packie mc was indeed a great player mentioned by most of his peers in any team. patrique you are an ase i was referring to a football title of note in the ulster championship i forgot that when the word antrim is mentioned you include ceili dancing your own hurling championship and probably boxing, i think you will find that gerry might well be from belfast on paper but his roots lie in tyrone.

Bald Eagle, I have no argument with you or your county. My argument is with Niamh only and her constant putting-down of Kerry. Fair enough if you want to come to her defence because she's from your county, but you wouldn't see me coming to the defence of Ciarrai Abu.

Niamh's said that Tyronemanc's post where he hoped 2 Derry players will never win the AI was "completely unsporting and unfair" - is she not being a bit overdramatic in your opinion? I hope no player but Kerry players win the AI - is that completely unsporting and unfair? I don't think so, I support Kerry, noone else. Why would I want anyoone else to win?

When Donaghy was getting slagged, it was personal. Like I said before, a certain Clare poster called him Kieran Donkey (which he has done on more than one occasion). That's why I jumped to Donaghy's defence. Sorry, "my beloved Star's" defence.

I don't know what the Tyrone and Derry posters say to each other, but when one says that they don't want the other to win an AI then that's a fair comment in my book. If you said you don't want Kyle Coney, for example, to win a senior AI, then that would be fair game too. Nothing unsporting about it. It's the way you feel.

And as for "all I type is ****", grand, fair enough. You might be right.

Red Doctor, instead of arguing about this, should we not be setting up a support group for Kilkenny, who have never won a Provincial or All Ireland title at any grade, and do not look like they ever will.

Well, by your reckoning anyway.

Why do you get so annoyed at Antrim being Ulster's most successful county? Someone has to be.

And if you can simply dismiss a 7 in a row at Senior level, and 14 in a row at minor, well I really do feel sorry for you. Jealousy will tear you apart.

patrique i have never mentioned kilkenny football team in any post and obviously ure rattled by your lack of hurling kudos re antrim, obviously you would rather antrim dominate ulster in the old hurling rather than get hammered by dublin n lenister i suppose you can argue for a westmeath antrim pitch opening in cushendall in 2010 to decide the rightful ulater championes for that year my god what a clown.

I have just been informed that great hurling players do not count on this thread. This is a football thread.

Obviously it was a Tyrone person who said this.

125062 niamh, a great team defo win the all ireland this year but you know what it was full of great players, just like scullion tohill henry downey three great players in an ordinary team in 93. you are all missin the point of this thread.

Niamh, Bald Eagle cant believe you've let this one go. Even being a fellow tyrone man at least I can admit that it was a great Derry team in 93 and was not ordinary. There was more than 3 great players - they had plenty more, McKeever one of the best corner backs ever, Coleman, Burns, Barton, Cassidy, Brolly, Gormley and S Downey all great players to name but a few in that team.

Wind your neck in reddoctor, even the most ardent Tyrone fan wouldnt say these players were ordinary

Tommy Walsh? I agree, gave a powerful display in last year's Tommy Murphy final, the best display of high fielding I have seen in years. Alas, it is unlikely that Wicklow or his native Carlow will make a break through.

Will Tommy Walsh be Kerry captain next year after Kerins O'Rahillys winning the county title?

They haven't it won yet Mid Mon Man! Final's on this weekend. Don't be counting chickens....

It's the winning team that gets the honour of picking the captain though. Highly unlikely that should they win that they'd pick someone other than their own club man. But they could pick David Moran or Michael Quirke, highly unlikely given that they're not regular starters.

Tommy Walsh already has about 4 all-Ireland medals and a hurler of the year to boot. Keep up lads.

Ah right sure I didn't realise that, didn't see that they were playing Mid-Kerry. I suppose the fact they already played their Munster game threw me, bit funny that they play it before their county final isn't it! I know that amalgamations can't play in Munster but watching the game vs Nemo yesterday made me think they'd already won Kerry, remember hearing about them doing well a while ago so just assumed they won it out. Who would be favourites for the final then?

I was thinking about Moran or Quirke being considered if KoR won, but as you say they're not starters. If Mid-Kerry won who would they pick, Darren O'Sullivan? Or do they have a more regular player that I'm forgetting about?
