Declan Browne has to deserve a mention. I'd say Tommy Freeman but he still has a few years to put him out of this category! :D

iwould have thought that only great players win all irelands, maybe this thread should be good or average or unlucky players never to have won an all ireland.

Cmon red doctor. there was a few years there were people thought Canavan wouldn't win an All Ireland I think everyone agrees he was a great player with or without his medal.

Reddoctor I'm sure Tyrone have had a lot of great players down through the years that haven't won an AI.

Nonsense, the great Tommy Murphy, who made it onto the team of the millenium - never won an all ireland. cruelly hacked down by a kerry knuckleduster.....

Sure jaysus there' loads of lads who couldn't kick snow off a rope who won All-Irelands as subs, you could hardly rate them above great players like Ciaran McDonald, Matty Forde, Declan Browne etc. who probably won't win one

Of course you dont need an AI medal to be a great. there's any number of great players that will never have that precious celtic cross. the fact is some counties have no chance of winning, even less so now with the back door. doesnt mean they cant have some truly great players who can wow the crowd with majestic skills. reddoctor just shows that some people have very short memories, many great former tyrone players were around long before 2003

interesting debate but surely an all ireland medal is the ultimate measure of greatness. great players are defined by what longevity skill sportsmanship etc the list is endless, an all ireland senior medal in county terms is all that matters to anyone competing for them. if the post had said great derry players never to win an all ireland or counties like great letrim players then you could name 100s of them, doesent make them great does it re all irelands. eg sean marty lockhart allstar ireland rules legend one of the best defenders in ulster in the last 20 years, all irelands nil, will he be remembered in 50 years time doubtful unless your a derryman. the same can be said of frank mcguigan senior all ireland semi final 1984 anonymous as im sure the great sean marty was when derry got to the business end of a championship, 2 semis in recent times i think.

This reddoctor chap has a very unheathy fixation with Derry but then again he had a fixation with ousting Mickey Harte and lambasting Tyrone's chances as well earlier in the year. How did that go for you..........?You gotta grow up .

Ollie Collins of Derry. For a while he was the best centre half forward in Ireland, and unknown.

I can think of thousands of All Ireland winners who could by no means of the imagination be classified as great. I can think of quite a few in the last two years, even at hurling.

As I keep saying, a lot of it is an accident of birth.

If Mike Sheehy, Paidi O'Shea, Ger Power, Ogie Moran and Pat Spillane had been born in Belfast they wouldn't have an all Ireland between them.

Spillane would still be the best thing you ever saw however.

Gerry Adams, Martin McGuinness, Arthur Morgan, Martin Ferris and Co looked as if they could win an All-Ireland a few years back, but I think that they've lost the will. Hopefully, a younger generation will come to the fore and have what it tales to win an All-Ireland
