Hurling Dream Team

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The footballers have their Senior and Inter dream team this year so would anyone be able to put together their hurling dream teams of the season?

Two important games left, but club all-stars currently are:

1.Ivan Canning
2.Jamie Cannon
3.McEntee or McClearn
4.Ollie Canning
5.Everyone else seems to have Mahony here, thought he was playing midfield all year. Prob Andy Coen
6.Lee wasn't very impressive against Portumna, not sure.
7.ANOther
8.Shane Burke
9.Eoin Lynch
10.Johnny Maher
11.Mark Kerins
12.Rory Gantly - can't believe the other 2 posters forgot this man. Brilliant in the 2nd half of year
13.To be confirmed - Ollie Fahy / Gilly Ryan / David Donoghue / JohnnyO / Aonghas Callinan
14.JC
15.Damien Hayes

Not as easy as I thought, plenty of places up for grabs. Think this is a good idea, and should be adopted by the Connacht Tribune or somebody.

Think G. Farragher should replace P. Killilea in the team above..........Also couple more for people to think about, K.Wade(corner forward) from Sarsfields, Colm Meehan(full back) from Ballinderreen, M J Quinn(wing back) from Athenry, there teams might not being going good but no doubt they are hurling great the past couple of years.

WhatsItAllAbout,

We were trying to get the club all-stars for this years - form in the past few years shouldn't count.

'Have not seen Kinvara, Beagh or Athenry either.'

I have seen all three (while not having seen some other teams so no comments on them). Joe Gantley has been excellent all year for Beagh, an inspiration to all around him.

Kinvara kept five clean sheets in six matches this year, so perhaps one or two of their defence might merit a look-in. Callinan (in goal) and Leech have been the standout players here.

Cyril Donnellan has battled manfully in a struggling side this year and deserves a mention too.

Billy50,

I thought you said you saw the Loughrea / Gort semifinal - why have you still included Damien McClearn in your team???

Because he remains the best full back in the county.

He still gives everything to the game despite having a broken hand in five places and having injections for the last three games to play

Ric Flair, your stupid childish remarks are really not wanted here. The majority of people are looking for mature discussion. Your type of carry on is as much responsible for the state of Galway hurling as the players, the management team and the county board are. I am really surprised and disappointed that admin haven't edited or cut your comments completely as they put people off even reading the boards. I know other discussion boards that would have you banned at this stage.

Gort have a fantastic hurling tradition and congrats to them for getting to the final. Likewise Portumna who are great ambassadors for the county. Hard Luck to Loughrea and hopefully we'll see no retirements on their end this year. Quit the sniping, give something constructive to the discussion or just shut up.

Yeah i would agree McClearn wasn't great against and it wouldn't surprise me if he was injured. He must hate to see Alan Kelly reffing his matches because he seems to be the only ref that pulls him for frees. If McEntee or Andy Coen have a pretty good final i could have a rethink. I rate him as a fullback but i have my doubts if he would be as effective at county level. He is playing with Murray, Stamp Regan and Dermot Melia for years and might take a while to adjust to other players he wont have played with.

not seen enough games to pick a full team but just want to make a few points about this tread.

1. wouldn pick mcclearn or mcentee. reason why kelly gives frees againt mcclearn is cause he fouls alot. saw him against craughwell and he was kept dragging back his player. i think its the loughrea defensive unit more than one player that makes them so strong. mac is just back from injury so lacking a little hurling.
2. saying that say shocks three times this year and haven't seen a better centre back this year.
3. whole idea of all stars is awarding players for playing well not awarding great players. with that in mind i would include ciaren 'gilly' ryan from portumna. 4 goals in three matchs, two important one's against clairnbridge.

thank god none of you are over the galway team because kilkenny would beat any of those teams by at least 50 points. alot of the players mentioned are good club hurlers at best.

Catch the ball.

It's a team of the '08 club hurling championship. It has nothing to do with Kilkenny you idiot.
