Killala

Fair play to killala, after a decidely dodge start to the season they have defied the odds and reached another County Junior final. Them must be the Junior team of the decade, 3 finals I think in the last 10 years.

Ya fair play, but is that an impressive title "junior team of the decade" surely it would be better to have moved up to the intermediate ranks. Alot of young players blooded this year and alot of older heads coming back at a good time.

Team of the decade at Junior level if they can clinch the title next Sunday and make it to Intermediate level. They were also Connacht champions in 2006.A grand little club with vision ,intelligence and positivity among the committee, and great commitment from the players. The change of management has worked really well. The previous manager was very successful , inculcated confidence and a winning mentality. The present management are all former players and very knowledgeable.

I mean getting to the final regularly and losing doesnt make you the best team... i.e. mayo have got to alot of all-ireland finals, but won none... The same can be said for kilalla in the junior championship

Dont know how getting promoted to intermediate once and then going back down once would make a team a yo-yo team. But whatever you think yourself.

Ya it's a great record alright, they won 1 of the finals, Most of the other Juniors teams that won the county in the last few years have managed to stay up. The 1 connacht title that was won, Killala lost to a Crossmolina B team in the Final. Junior Team of the Decade, I am not sure!!! Look at the likes of Achill, Kilcommin, Cross, Ballina, Aughmore all won and managed to stay up. These teams also challenged and won League titles, a thing Killala have not done.

Also look at the likes of Shrule who were in the same league division as killala when killala last won a county junior. They managed to make their way up to senior. Also Breaffy.

Deeman!
Killala have won leauge titles the last was in 2006 when they also won Connacht, oh and they were the only junior team in the division. Also you must look at the amount of players at the disposal of most of the teams you mentioned like Crossmolina, Ballina, Aghamore and Achill. I know that Kilcommon are in the same boat as Killala.

The leauge in 2007 was ok for them and this year was very bad, they struggled to field teams for some fixtures. Championship game vesus Shrule was the turning point.

I think the title of junior team of the decade isn't somthing to be proud of. They should have beaten Crossmolina in 2006, and im sure if they did things would be very different now.

Achill have a reasonably small pool of players to select.. Think about 2 of thier team actually lives in achill full time

Maybe so but they could still field two teams this year.

Junior team of the decade ? Definetly if they win on Sunday.County Champions 2000. North Mayo champions 2000 and 2007
Division 3 title winners 2006.Connacht Club champions 2006.Promoted2000.2001 and 2002.2005 and 2006. Made a very successful T.V. add which still features on television.!!Toured Canada and New York and still managed to play football.!! Over the last eight years Killala players have appeared fit ,well organised, and well coached. They have been very disciplined also and seldom have a man put off.Prior to 2000 they were classic Junior journeymen, like most of the North Mayo junior clubs at present. To be fair Cill Chomains title winning side of 2005 was a classier outfit and they have also coped very well at Intermediate level.Killala to their credit have hung in there over the years and have staged some remarkable recoveries in big matches and in League campaigns. So ``Deeman`` in ``Westmeath`` you need to check your facts. I have often wondered at Killalas consistency at Junior level and what kick started it all.Maybe ``YA OK`` can fill us in.If they win on Sunday, and it is a big if,will they survive at Intermediate level?

No doubt about it now Killala are the Junior team of the decade.3 final appearances, one defeat[2006 by a point to Crossmolina].Connacht title by the knockout route in 2006.The team are a credit to a small well organised club and they are really showing up all the other North Mayo junior underachievers.Well done and the best of luck for the Connacht campaign.

i'm not sure i'd say there a great team, does greatness take 8 years to win a second county title, and its not as if they were up in the dizzy heights of the intermediate championship for long spells, a year on each ocassion as well as choosin to drop to junior on te last occasion............they also had one of the biggest junior panels out this year when compared to others in the county. Back in march they were missin 12 or so and were still fielding teams with a few subs. i'd hardly call that a small base to work from!!but credit where its due, congrats and enjoy, best of luck with connaught, hope you stick it out at intermediate next year!!
