Speedy, some good points, but how come it takes the 2nd best team in Ireland 46 minutes to score? patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 12/10/2008 15:08:51 117518 Link 0 |

Another great wind-up from Patrique! I was going to put Down above Antrim but then I remembered Fiona Shannon's handball titles... Benandonner (Antrim) - Posts: 459 - 12/10/2008 17:17:48 117531 Link 0 |

The best way to rank the Ulster teams is to give each marks out of ten for both their hurling team and football team and add them together i.e Tyrone Football 9/10 Hurling 3/10 = 12/20...etc. bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4678 - 12/10/2008 17:29:38 117536 Link 0 |

Bellyman, I agree that the Leinster football final was a freak result. Esteemed writers like Liam Hayes tipped Wexford to win before the game. I think Wexford would beat the Dubs at hurling, but the football could possibly even it up, hard to say. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 12/10/2008 18:38:20 117554 Link 0 |

Patrique - perhaps you are the one dismissing football because Antrim are not very good at it. bocerty (Tyrone) - Posts: 539 - 13/10/2008 09:47:13 117728 Link 0 |

Patrique as much as you claim your approach is fair, it is in fact not. You should calculate an average aggregate score per game, not saying antrim will come out on top but as some teams have played more ulster teams than others this cannot be seen as a afir result. Also, If that is your argument i can safely say antrim will come last next year, they wont beat an ulster team in hurling or football. Patrique, I have being trying to research the Ulster Football Final winners of the early years. You obviously have a good book from which you get your information. Could you tell me which county won in 1897 ? Also I have discovered that the Ulster Football Final was played in Dundalk in the following years, 1910 Antrim v Cavan, 1931 Cavan v Armagh and 1942 Cavan v Down. Antrim beat us but we won the other two. Why were these games played in Dundalk.? I know that Cavan v Armagh replay in 1939 was played in Croke Park as there were problems at the drawn game in Castleblaney when the crowd overflowed onto the field and that Final had to be abandoned. With your knowledge these matters should pose no problems ! Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 13/10/2008 11:02:28 117778 Link 0 |

Speedy...take your points but in hurling you can hook someone from a distance...so you can basically stop a player from scoring if your either side of him, in front or behind him. therefore you need to get away from lads to score unlike football tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 13/10/2008 11:17:44 117797 Link 0 |

Speedy. Your points are fair enough but i would add a caveat. Yes you can score from over your shoulder but it is hardly that easy to do is it.?? It is not the first thing you learn when playing hurling. How many times do you see it happen?? Not very often. It takes a lot of practice. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 13/10/2008 12:26:56 117873 Link 0 |

Thanks Omaghjoe, the ladies, 6 (six) all Ireland senior titles, again putting Antrim top in Ulster, Cavan and Down have 5 each. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 13/10/2008 15:31:34 118030 Link 0 |
