SLIGO PANEL 2009

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I heard Johnson managed sligo back in the early 90s, but dont hold me to that, i did go to all the games back then but hadnt a clue who was the manager, as that was before i was 10. He didnt do too great but he wasnt working with much.

On OHara i love him as a player only:-))).. all joking aside i still see a role for him. For me all i know O Hara is not midfield material anymore, but in forwards i dont know if FF would suit him, all im saying is i would try it and if it didnt work try him somewhere else. Quinn for me hasnt the mobility for FF whereas OHara has. I dont care where he has played all his life, D Brady for mayo always played midfield but in his latter yrs was very effective at FF for balllina and mayo so it can be done.

On sweeney i agree, i see alot of potential but he hasnt got a right chance at it yet but he will and it'll be interesting to see how he does. Needs to take his chances starting and be more consistent especially when starting.

What about Simon Gillespie of St Marys? I play football with him in Dublin and he seems to be a fairly good footballer although rugby is his main sport.

Sligonian, i did read your post which included the phrase "he didnt impress me at all". Thats a pretty clear and unambiguous statement. Maybe you should re-read it. I think the managerial saga is dragging on a bit now - any word of any movement on the grapevine?

Nail:
"he didnt impress me at all. But in saying that i dont think he brought his A game to plate with us. The way he managed us he couldnt have won all that on his CV". Dont start taking my quotes out of context, its pretty clear in what im saying, i certainly didnt see the best of johnston simple as that. As i said in another post he didnt really rate us and didnt think we'd do aswell that yr.

On the Sligo manager, i already said that 3 interviews took place last week, and an announcement is due soon.

Crystal. Sligonian, I am so so sorry for getting the wrong impression - Correct me if im wrong you state that you were impressed with him - full stop. He couldnt have won all that on his CV - full stop. How could i have got the wrong idea i wonder? You're not always right you know, you can back down if you want.

Crystal?? whos crystal? Let make it playskool clear so. My personal experience with Jonston was that he didnt have much to offer BUT i know he didnt bring all his managerial skills to the plate because he didnt rate us. So in effect i shouldnt really comment on him even though i had a few yrs first hand experience with him. Harps looked so good this yr he must be a good manager, he is getting the best out of them but with us Sligo vocational schools he was average and thats a fact, but my intution says hes alot better than that. I cant make any clearer. Im delighted he is doing so well with harps, it was a pleasure to watch them last sunday and Taylor too.

yea simon gillespie will surely get a call up this year he kept all of his men scoreless from play last year and his strength would be a huge addition to the panel as he plays alot of rugby

Eamon Cawley certainly deserves another chance. He's got raw talent and about one of the only consistent free takers in the county

Agree that McGrath and Mullen would be an addition as they are good honest players.
As I said in another thread the worring thing is that the west division only had one team in the U20 this year and that was in B. Any reasons for the lack of players?

I think Kevin Gallagher from harps is a savage player! Strong & athletic who could be worked with! Deserves a chance at a sligo jersey...

Is it true Donnacha from Marys was called in ? Anyone know the sligo squad. Who has been dropped ? who has been brought in ? Squad seems to be a bit of a joke. Too many players there on reputation not form.

Not harps they are the best team in Sligo and have great players. Not giving out about any team, im talking about individual players that arent good enough. I'd love to see a list of all the players that are on it this year. There has been players brought in the last few years that didnt get starting for their club. We all know that there are players on there that panel that are past it or younger players that havent got a look in. What the point of dragging them along. We have gone from Connaught champions to bottom 5 teams in Ireland in one year. Who didnt pull their weight last year. Throw them off and make them fight for their place back. Its hard for the Sligo selectors to throw their friends off. Donegal have no favorites if they arent performing they are gone. They also give their youth a change and have 3 or 4 new young players every year E.G Michael Murphy, Anton Thomson etc
