Asked to take our flags down

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

"The Tyrone county board has asked their supporters to remove flags and bunting hung around the O'Neill County for the All-Ireland wins."

Why should we take down our flags jus weeks after our all ireland glory when you go to places like fivemiletown and parts of dungannon and even months after the 12th of july their are still union jacks on display?

Its an absolute disgrace to see union jacks up so long after they're put up, but an even bigger disgrace is the state they are allowed to get into...ripped and torn usually to half it's normal size. If people do not have respect for their national flag then they shouldn't be allowed to put them up in the first place.
The Tyrone County Board are only asking their patrons to have a little respect for their county flag by taking them down now before they get into this sort of mess..lets not lower ourselves by comparing our flag to raggedy union flags that are well past their sell-by date.
You never know...the Orange Order could take a leaf out of the county board's book and ask all their members to take their flags down....unlikely but you never know!!

Just a Thought , but maybe we should leave the bunting up till next July, They'd only need to put up blue bunting then!!

Lol

Seriously though, its way too early to be taking down our Flags & bunting.
For Gods sake, they have their "Marching Season" with parades going on from June till August to celebrate the 12th July!!
Do they ever think how we feel having something we don't like (Orangeism) shoved down our throats months after the event?

Well with the new found Equality for ALL and with Tyrone's success over the last 5 years, we should now start our "Celebration Season" for three months & see how they like having something (The GAA) they dont like shoved down their throats months after the event.

Its not as if the Tyrone team are forcibly marching through fivemiletown saying its the "traditional route" or anything like that...

I think its a sensible enough move and shows the GAA in a much more tolerant and respectful light than our friends in the orange order. The job's done, celebrations might be ongoing but there's nothing worse than tatty, tired flags and bunting fluttering meekly as the onset of winter begins.

Leave the flags up. You are celebrating a great victory and you dont have to be apologetic to anyone. These are SPORTS flags and not designed to be symbols of oppression. Sometimes we can overdo the niceness.

As the SAM MAGUIRE & TOM MARKHAM Cups, haven't even visited all the clubs from the players on the Tyrone Senior & Minor Panels, in my opinion it's too early to be taking down all the flags & bunting.

With our Tyrone teams Minor & Senior doing the double, such a Historic occasion should be celebrated in each an every Town, Village & Parish. Part of this celebration is players & management from the Tyrone teams visiting ALL the clubs with the Cups.
This is a joyful occasion for the players & supporters alike, part of the celebration is seeing all the flags & bunting and the Red & white colour, it adds to the occasion.

The pride each & every club and all their members from the young to the old has in our Tyrone Hero's are represented by these visits, and the flags & bunting and should remain part of that celebration until SAM & TOM have visited.

Lads and Lassie's As our Derry friend said it is to celebrate and not intimidate. The Tyrone flags are not political so don't make them about sectarian territorial fooling, the tyrone flag is to sacred a thing for me and I am sure most of us to be doing such a thing with. Take the flags down as best as you see fit for there is going to be plenty of more chances to have your flags up. And keep free from the sectarianism fellas and one day everyone in Tyrone will be putting up Tyrone flags. TIR EOGHAIN ABU

There a Tyrone flag on a Telegraph pole here beside me thats been up since 2005 and I aint taking 'er down now, Perhaps if the weather changes I might pluck up the courage to scale the pole again but not on a day like that and the forecast aint good. She'll stay up another while yet.

I would be nice to see a day when everyone would be putting up Tyrone flags, but don't think it will ever happen, I mean could you ever envisage Armagh or Derry folk contemplating such a move - a bridge too far I reckon.

Lets be honest the chances of any county flying the flag of a neighbouring county En mass is slim to none. But that is what makes our football code unique. That and the fact that you will see the occasional flag of the "Foe" fly in unexpected places where people have moved for varying reasons but still want to support their county. It is a source of great satisfaction to see A kerry flag fly in carrickmore and a tyrone flag fly in Cahirciveen. It always reminds me that not only is our code still a Sport but a totally unpoliticised sport. Lets please keep it as such. The Sectarian rantings of some of our so called politicians should not be dignified with a reply. And our great county flags should never be used for any reason other than to celebrate our sport culture and heritage. The inter county banter and slagging is great and long may it last that is what define us from the other codes.
