Limerick Hurling 2026

(Oldest Posts First)

League has been decent so far, showed plenty v Tipp but not too much apart from that
Seems like priority is to find 2-3 new starters rather than blooding complete newcomers- Aidan O Connor and Shane O Brien have been around a while but finally look like likely starters for Championship. Matthew Fitzgerald the only real newcomer and knowing Kiely he will go back to the tired and trusted with Fitzgerald a back up.
But having said that a FB line of Casey, Morrissey and Finn might be short a bit of pace, especially against the fast Tipp and Cork forwards so there could be a place there for Fitzgerald or Barry Nash
With Peter Casey fit we look like we have plenty of options up front, and the likes of Hegarty and Tom Morrissey will have to fight hard to start
Daragh O Donovan could be a big loss - hope he is back for the Championship and it could shake things up further back. Will O Donoghue likely to move to midfield with Adam English with Kyle Hayes to CB
That could open up a wing back spot - Kiely has never trusted Colin Coughlan to start a big game so maybe Fitzgerald or Nash slot in there.
But I wouldn't be surprised to see Cathal O Neill get a run at wing back: he is too good not to start, and competition for a spot in forwards is unreal.

Cork look really, really good but Cork have looked good before. They have so many good, fast forwards its unreal but they can only play 6 of them and stil question marks about their defence. I am sure Tipp are loving the fact that they seem to be flying under the radar
I say the same thing every year - Munster will be savage. Arguably the best 4 teams in the country in Munster and I know Waterford will say they are as good as Clare, and maybe they are but Clare are more likely to contend than Waterford IMHO). And even if Galway finally seem to be on a good path, Leinster teams just seem a little off that level. Galway will be good but realistically need another year to be contenders and Kilkenny look to be rebuilding.

Limerick v Cork on League will be fascinating. Nobody will want to back down but I suspect Cork will pick plenty of young guys and tell them to give it a lash. So nothing lost if they dont win, and it will keep them mean for the future contests. Limerick will shuffle a little but will have most of their starters
