He did. Their 1st Senior title ever. Got them back to the final last year.

From a small sample size granted, but saw some young lads hurling club last night that could be forged into useful additions to the county set-up under McGrath. Niall Furlong for the Alley, Liam Kenny and Doran Daly O'Toole for Mellows. Kenny in particular has the bit of size we're crying out for in defence.

Niall Furlong and Doran Daly O'toole are both good hurlers. Haven't seen Kenny play yet.

One of the great All Ireland wins yesterday. Never seen anything like the outpouring of emotion. Made me think how would I feel if we did it . As someone who was just a small child in 96 I'd say I would be extremely emotiononal if we got over the line. I hope to see it at least once in my lifetime. Mayo showed yesterday what can be done when you work your socks off and believe you can do it . It's very hard to see us winning one any time soon but I really hope Derek and his management team get a spark out of us and get us back competing with the best

You are lucky to remember it. I was a baby in 1996 so don't remember.
You need to get a bit of luck to get over the line, but hard work and a plan are the only ingredients. We need everybody to get behind Derek McGrath, we need players to make themselves available, we need people to work harder in our clubs than ever before if we are to ever climb those steps again.
I'm 30 next week and for the first time, I am wondering if I'll ever see us win one. I think we are not going forward at the moment but are falling behind.
We need a minor or u20 All-Ireland win to boost the county. But everybody needs to take part and do their bit. Don't use GAA as a babysitting service. You can get the cones set up, fetch the balls, wash jerseys, this all takes no knowledge. Get involved and do your bit. Its not "somebody else's job", you can do some of it.
I hope our players and supporters give Derek McGrath their all because if we don't, we could slip in to Joe McDonagh and that could be the final nail. Make Wexford Park a fortress. Don't give up on them over a bad result. Co. Board need to do everything possible to get bums on seats. Give out free tickets to schools. Make an atmosphere. We have to FIND A WAY for HOW it can be done, not find reasons for why it can't be done.

That was epic in Croke Park, have long wondered what a Mayo All Ireland win would be like and it was all I'd hoped and more, a great people. Couldn't help but reflect on our own situation and the conclusions offered scant comfort.
I listened with interest to some of the insights shared by Andy Moran post game including that they now have minor, u19, u20s and senior aligned with a managerial connection across the squads. That they have an u19 development squad was in itself interesting - I don't believe we have this - costs probably.
Mayo have been consistently knocking on the door for decades, the second best team in Ireland for much of this time. Granted the failure to close it out was heartbreaking BUT they must have been doing an awful lot right over this time. They've won minor and u20 all Ireland during this time too. They have appointed Mayo management most years too.
I found the conscious embracing of 'the hype' and the encouragement of supporters to play the 16th man role, by both Andy Moran an John Keily (for Limerick) really intreating too - I hadn't seen this since possibly Liam Griffin (always WAY ahead of his time) did this.
Turn to Wexford, is a game that fewer counties play at a high level we're way down the pecking order and have been most of the last 30 years. We have had zero underage all Ireland success too. So Mayo had a conversion problem, Wexford has a production problem. Not just players but managerial talent too.
We had the Kinnerik report last year - has anything happened to implement it??
Where is the urgency? Even reading comments here, no criticism meant, but I see acceptance, which is depressing. There is NO reason Wexford can't be a top tier team again. NO reason we can't get back up the steps of the Hoganstand. We have the clubs, we have the young lads who want this. We have the passionate support.
Implement the report, strive to excellence in every aspect of Wexford GAA (Model County??) and we can turn this corner - it won't be overnight and in truth our gap may stretch out to 40 years BUT if we don't do the right things now we'll be the Cavan of hurling - a county with a great past but little today (sorry Cavan). There are plenty of middling counties in football, take your pick, we have NO right to win an All Ireland - we have to make and take it. Is there the drive, leadership, knowhow to do this? Or will many of us be here in 10 years, 40 years on from 1996, bemoaning the same things and even further from redemption?

Let's hope we get inspiration from wgat Mayo did this year .
The hurt from losing so many finals wrapped up into one of the most memorable days in gaa history Christ it would bring a tear to any gaa man's eye especially if u are a long sufferering silupporter of a less successful team .
Won't lie I shed a tear not for just for Mayo as such but for their supporter that kept going through tough times although I would nt mind getting to an all ireland finsl again win or lose just have tgat day in the sun 75years is more than a lifetime to most .
I see one of our regular posters put some post up in a different thread about how basically football is the poor relation and cant touch hurling for its akill etc etc etc why would u do that on such a momentous day in gaa I ll never know or understand.
Yesterday will go down as one of the greatest days in gaa hustory .
Surely all children in all hurling or football dominated couhties will get inspired from that and want to play to emulate yesterdays triumph and play Gaa rather than some of other the competing sports .
For gods sake when will the hurling community realise that football is not the enemy .
Some of those Mayo men's names will never be forgotten .
