Any Examples Of Players Who Live In One County But Their Local Club Is In Another County?

(Oldest Posts First)

Been looking at clubs like Ballaghaderreen which is in Roscommon (but the club and parish are in Mayo) so players like Andy Moran play for Mayo. Wondering if that works out the same way for these clubs that seem to straddle two counties? Anyone know players from one county but ended up having to play for another county? or do they have to option to represent the county the feel connected to?

Ballydesmond plays in Cork but half the parish is in Kerry
Moneygall, part of Tipp GAA, majority of parish is in Offaly
Creggs, part of Roscommon, town, school, pitch all in Galway
St Croan's in Roscommon but takes in all of Ballymoe in Galway, a decent sized village
Carrig-Riverstown across from Birr in Tipperary, plays in Offaly
Galmoy, Ballyragget, Lisdowney parishes all etch into Laois
Ballinderry and Drummullan in Derry are right on the Tyrone border
St Mullins Parish in Carlow takes in a bit of Wexford
The whole area of North Antrim around Bushmills seems to be closer to Eoghan Rua in Coleraine Derry than other Antrim clubs

Graiguecullen now play in Leix but Graiguecullen is mainly in Co. Carlow (newer parts are in Co. Leix but the Carlow town boundary has extended to take in the newer parts into the boundaries of Carlow town but not the county ... yet).

HWH Bunclody, town is mainly in Wexford but a fair chunk of Bunclody is in Co. Carlow but players from the carlow side of the stream play for HWH in Wexford.

Goresbridge is almost entirely in Co Kilkenny but the Ballyellen side of the river is in Carlow but players from there play for Barrow Rangers in Kilkenny.

Someone from Rosbercon in Kilkenny can play for Geraldine's in Wexford.

Killanny, an Intermediate club in Monaghan just on the outskirts of Carrickmacross. They were Intermediate Champions in Monaghan a couple of years ago (beating Carrickmacross). 31 of the 42 townlads in the parish are in Co Monaghan and 11 townlands are in Co Louth. They play their football in Monaghan, yet their football pitch is in Co Louth, and the Parish Church is in Louth.

Am I missing something here ? I understood the idea behind the thread was to point out players who lived in one county but whose local club was in another ? I don't recall seeing any names yet. If we are just naming clubs, Bray Emmets is a club which straddles both Wicklow and part of Dublin, I don't know if any players are affected. Never has been an issue to the best of my knowledge.

Tommy Durnin the Louth midfielder who got nominated for an All Star last year played with Inniskeen in Monaghan for three years. He transferred to Ardee St Mary's this year. Two years ago ex Louth midfielder Conor Early transfered from the Oliver Plunketts in Drogheda to Na Fianna in Dublin. So at one stage the two Louth midfielders were playing their trade outside the county.

. I dont think it's a matter of squealing or not. I'd imagine if it was, the "offended" clubs would be on here fighting their corner. Anyway, seems like no players are in that situation , so, nothing to see here, as they say. :)

Not quite the same, but Oisin Kiernan plays for Castlerahan and Cavan but I think is from Oldcastle in Meath. Open to correction here

Mike and Peter Casey who play for Limerick senior hurlers technically resided in Meelick County Clare growing up, but went to school in Caherdavin in Limerick and always played with Na Piarsaigh in Limerick.

Cork Midfielder Darragh Fitzgibbon lives in Creggane which is inside the Limerick Border but always hurled for Charleville and went to school in Charleville Co. Cork.
