Replying To Blackspot09:  "Their clubs have consistently put up solid showings in Leinster. Moorefield Sarafield Naas Athy etc. I didn't say they had won lots of Leinster titles in the last 25 years but their clubs have always been very competitive reaching plenty of semi finals and finals and it hasn't transferred to the county team. Thats my main point here that just because the Kildare clubs are performing well in Leinster does not automatically mean the county team are coming.

Fair enough they could have beaten Louth in the Leinster Semi Final but they also could very well have been beaten by Limerick in the Tailteann Cup final where a last ditch block after the hooter prevented extra time."
Fair enough, I get your points. But you could equally argue that despite being competitive at club level they really have very little to show for it either.

Ehh well yeah I agree. Just think its a bit of a reach to and link clubs doing well to the county team coming good.

Rhode
Portlaoise
Eire OG
Rathknew

To name a few clubs that have competed well in Leinster and it has nothing for their County teams fortunes.

Good point regarding other county clubs. You could add Baltinglas as well.

There are still games going on in Pairc Tailteann and no sign of work or even an official signing on contracts for work to start.
Meath play their first league game on 24 of January in Croke Park. If Pairc Tailteann is still untouched at that stage, surely we don't go down to Dublin to play it.

A great win for St pats, into the last four, would be a great boost for Meath football if they went on to win the hogan or at least go on a deep run

Any updates regarding injuries? Frayner the obvious one but heard rafferty could be carrying a knock is this true?

Just heard Ronan Ryan will miss some league, having or has had an operation. If him and raff are both out the full back line is looking like a big issue. You'd probably have to move Keoghan or Adam O'Neill back there. I'd like to see Brian O'Halloran and Conor Ennis as our corner backs.

Ronan Ryan isn't a massive loss, he's a good players but you'd think he's not first choice at corner back. Rafferty a big loss obviously.

Think we should have more depth this year too, so we should have the luxury of dropping back Keoghan to the corner or O'Neill to full back if needed.

Is Rafferty actually injured and if so is it serious enough so that he could miss start of league? Frayne obviously long terms. What about others, Jones, Conlon, Kinlough etc?

Disagree i think Ronan Ryan is a big loss and a nailed on starter if fit. Thought the quarter final vs Galway was the best of his Meath career. Not sure about your depth comment either, I don't see it, especially in that full back line.

I have said here before that I am really looking forward to the O Byrne cup, but listening to Ruairí Kinsella's interview yesterday, and wow wee woo waa, it has only confirmed it even more. Hopefully, there will be plenty of Meath jerseys in Ashbourne (something that doesn't happen often) for the first home game of 2026.

Does anyone know if tickets are available to purchase yet? Speaking to a close ally of mine, she reckons it might be a sell-out!! Dont say i didnt warn you

It's great to see some excitement for the intercounty season returning. Now usually that would be for the league, but this man, seems to be an avid supporter of the feis cup for counties. The game is in a Wicklow venue so unless you want to see the Ashbourne team out training for the aforementioned feis cup, I recommend travelling to Wicklow.

Well if Meath progress far perhaps there will be an Ashbourne played game. Will be interesting to see approach taken by management regarding team selection. Expect a sprinkling of regular starters with a whole host of newer players plus players that missed out on later stages through injury this year. Less than 3 weeks away now.

Meath played the green and red of mayo in Pearse Park in Longford yesterday. Meath won by 7, 29 points to 3-13. Team was: Sean Brennan; Brian OHalloran, Sean Rafferty, Jordan Muldoon; Killian Smyth, Sean Coffey, Ciaran Caulfield; Cian McBride, Jack Flynn; Cathal Hickey, Ruairi Kinsella, Mathew Costello; Aaron Lynch,Thomas O'Reilly, Diarmuid Moriarty.
Subs were: Shane Gibney, Gerry Dwane, John O'Regan, Conor Gray, Adam O'Neill, Charlie O'Connor, Saran O Fionnagain, Rian McConnell, Ross Ryan and Oisin Martin.

A good win, not sure what sort of a team the men from the west had out. Good to see a few new lads on the team and a few lads returning after a year or two away. Meath look well set to win the great competition that is the well respected O'Byrne cup and Meathfootball12 will be a happy man with his …. In hand.

Good win over Mayo in a challenge match over the weekend, trailed 2-11 to 0-5 at the break and kicked 24 points in the 2nd half to win 0-29 to 3-13. Outscored them 0-24 to 1-2 in the 2nd half (the goal came near the end) which is impressive against any opposition.

A lot of new faces, and heard Kinsella was absolutely outstanding. Wouldn't read into it as it's December, but we kicked 2 pointers for fun with the aid of a strong breeze. Lots of positives to take

Genuinely think a massive year ahead. League and leinster there to be won and see what happens after that. No better team to take advantage of the advancing tide then us compared to other counties like cork and kildare who seem to butcher great promise with ease.

Now hold on a second, Southmeathgael, we had an outstanding championship last year, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Over the last 10 years, we have been very similar to those counties Cork and Kildare.

I am also hopeful, but Division Two will be very tough, as I would rank both Derry and Tyrone ahead of us as of today. We have a poor record against Louth in the last couple of years when the game truly mattered.
