Football Club Championships 2025-26

(Oldest Posts First)

Some football club championships have probably started already. Not too long to go now before all county championships are in full swing. I suppose the defending provincial winners will be the early favourites to go far.

From a Tyrone point, it's 20 years from a team won back to back championships, a lot of good teams and yes Errigal should win but not without a fight.

From a Dublin point of view I think Crokes are probably on the decline now so although they may win Dublin I just can't see them winning Leinster. It was interesting to see Theo Clancy as Croke's sole representation on the Dublin panel for most of the championship. I had heard a few more opted out but surely given their recent success they should have a handful of lads involved at county level..

After Crokes you're probably only really looking at Ballyboden and maybe Na Fianna as realistic challengers.

Kerry still playing in All ireland and those lads then have to to straight into Kerry County championship, club championship and then Munster championship

Thats a lot of football for
Gavin White; Evan Looney, Mark O'Shea; Micheál Burns and Tony Brosnan
They have a few old stagers in Fionn Fitzgerald and Kieran O'Leary who arent getting any younger

Just think they wont have the legs left by the time its all done.

The county championships are a tough one for the national media. In soccer there are about 4 leagues in Europe that get big international attention. Not everyone would be happy about it but possibly the national media need to focus on an agreeable select few high profile county championships?

IS that your pitch to have the Kerry Championship on?
With only 8/9 senior clubs and a bunch of well organised divisional teams, it probably is the best standard along side Dublins "super club" model.

Outside of that, the odd clash of a counties main rivals might get some interest ( Stephanites v Castlebar, Corofin v Moycullen, Nemo v Castlehaven etc

If it is viable for the national media to prioritise covering a select few county championships, in the interests of impartiality I'll look elsewhere. Mayo and Galway would have higher profiles in Connacht. Coolera-Strandhill of Sligo of course did fantastically well. A tricky one.

Club games get great coverage now on other platforms. You have clubber tv, in Mayo we have Mayo GAA tv showing dozens of live games. The national broadcaster has little interest in the club game and devote more time as I see it to rugby. Thank god for tg4.

The condensed nature of the inter county season along with removing the minor games on finals day has really diminished the all Ireland finals. RTE started their coverage last Sunday at 2:15pm. There is no build up or buzz…it's a case of let's get this out of the way fast and get oasis in.
