Cavan U20s

Good draw for the Cavan U20's last Wednesday, a game of two halves really, Monaghan the better team in the first half and leading by 5 points but changes in forward line at half time added a bit of urgency and pace to the Cavan attack, but game could have went either way in the end. Cavan very slow with the ball in the first half whilst Monaghan looked more fluent but in fairness to Cavan they picked it up in the second half. Cavan Management need to be more proactive with the substitutions, particularly in the forward line as only young Reilly performed, the others were very quiet.

Great win for minors over Derry today. Good spread of clubs represented too.

U20s might find Donegal a step above on Wednesday night.

Very good win for the minors, although they have an away game to Tyrone next week which will be tough, Tyrone beat Derry in the league 1-22 to 11 points so Cavan will be up against it, although the talent is there.
u20's up against it for sure, Donegal a very good team but hopefully Cavan can put in a decent performance if management get their selections right on the day, very slow to make changes in all of the games I've seen so far and not playing their best players, but unfortunately for Cavan, very little incentive for winning the game given that the winners will likely meet Derry in the final and Derry annihilated them two weeks ago.
But again, it comes back to the same old argument, we are we going wrong with underage football in the County, the talent is there but but once they put on the county jersey it's not happening, from I've seen watching the minors and u20's this year, theyre not playing as a team, they are playing as individuals.

The first couple of attacks the U20s had against Donegal they passed it around over and back for over a minute and got nowhere. Passing it 40 yards across the pitch and still in same position. Donegal direct and clinical.

Some things never change… and the results never change either…

Why was the Donegal penalty retaken?

Keeper was barely a step off his line so that would have been extremely harsh, but he did throw the ball to clear it. It looked like the umpire for the right call for the wrong reason.

Cavan's build up play in this match was so slow and ponderous it was difficult to watch… Why on earth do coaches persist with this nonsense when it clearly doesn't work…. Stupidity really is doing the same thing over and over again and continuing to come up with the same results… and our results are shocking

they don't have the players at u20 or senior to play in any way better... we are looking at mediocre club players expecting more out of them, expecting what they are not capable of . I am a bit shocked to see some of the lads on the U20s and seniors.. to see how completely limited they are..... This will continue to be the way until someone, somewhere has any depth of thought and rolls out a full year on year schools and juvenile coaching program.

There's an abundance of underage talent in Cavan, the problem is tat they're all individually talented but how do you get the best out them. You do that by having a good underage structure in place at schools, club & county level, putting in good coaches and picking the right managers to manage them when they come in to play inter-county.
