Replying To LimerickandProud:  "There wasn't any talk at all about Limerick team or panel not even a sniff of who was going well in training etc. I suspect Dan Morrissey isn't fully fit otherwise had to start but with a few weeks left to taking on Cork and Clare if he is not right they cant chance him."
I hope he hasn't been rushed back too quick, but he's a massive addition to have back. Badly missed in the league.

hard to know where we stand after the draw v Tipp
Do you take positives - Lynch was outstanding and both O Brien and English are going to be starters for some time to come. Nicky came through unscathed. Plus the likes of Dan, DOD, Peter Casey and Cathal O Neill are still to come in. And maybe the wet conditions made our passing game tough.
But Hayes at center forward didnt really work out (he played OK but didnt dominate) and WOD had a tough time at center back. Some of our backs looked nervy at the end when Limerick usually close out games. I dont know if Finn can get back to his best form but we missed his steady hand at the back. Maybe Dan can compensate (although Mike Casey had a good game)
And way more positives for Tipp who look like the real deal. In the second half I kept waiting for limerick to push out their lead to 3,4,5 points but each time Tipp came back. And we didnt get enough return from our half forward line
Its a cliche to say it, but its still true, Munster is an animal, and likely more so this year. And Limerick are no longer ahead of their rivals. Every game is going to be a dog fight

Anyone know why Darragh O Donovan got not time Sunday, looked lively against Wexford in last round of the league. Think we really miss him as his distribution to the forwards is the best we have

If Limerick won the game it would have between O Brien and Lynch for MOTM
He was at the heart of everything good for Limerick especially in the second half

Are you going to give your opinion or do you think the above is outrageous?

I thought Cian Lynch was the best Limerick player on the field. Got on the world of ball in packed areas and distributed the ball very well.
Whether or not Tipp are the real deal yet is probably still up for debate but they were certainly very good against us.

WOD doesn't seem to be the answer at centre back for me, he does a job but Hannon would create so much more. I hope Wod will revert to midfield next day out. I would also like to see DOD back and revert Cian to the center forward. Dan needed at full back too, Casey to keep his place and had a good game but just move out to the corner. He seemed to spend a lot of time in the corner anyway and Nash was in the middle a lot.
Hayes did well as usual and worked his socks off at centre forward but we probably need even more from him. Centre back or half back would be better for him.

One big area i don't see enough of is that we don't crash through the first tackles enough any more. We look to pass, pass, pass where previously we would crash through and break the tackle solo and then pass on the run. Hego was a master of this, is it just we don't do it anymore or the opposition is gone more powerful and doesn't let us do it. Hego looks to me like he is almost holding back, if there is a coming together the free nearly always seems to go against him as the other player goes flying. Refs need to watch attackers just running or pushing straight into people and then going down, the defender is entitled to hold their ground and if someone is pushing in against your front you don't have to budge as long as you make sure not to wrap with your hands, that is charging from the attacker. Hoggie is a master at it and leans straight in and goes down and often gets his free, A free for charging is a rarity.

Limerick in a good place a good point earned away with loads of bodies to come back Shane O Brien a real handful at FF but cant take anything for granted Waterford could be the real dark horse. Great opening days entertainment hard to beat it for drama.

Cork/Limerick my favourites for AI but KK looked impressive on Saturday

I agree, KK did look impressive. But, how good (or poor) were the Galway?

You're right about Cian Lynch, Fitzy - I thought he was excellent. While Tipp seem to have improved a lot, they are far from the real deal yet. I think they were lucky to meet Limerick in the first game, because I believe Limerick will only get better from here on. Once they get all players fit and decide on their best 15 (a tough task, I admit) I see them as favourites for Munster and All-Ireland. Dan Morrissey, Hannon, O'Donovan and Peter Casey are among the top players of the past few years and will strenghten the team immensely. I agree with you, too, about players getting soft frees that should go the other way.

I don't think Kiely knows his best team
While apart from Nicky we didn't have as many long term injuries as other years we have had a lot of guys missing on and off or coming back to fitness. Dan, Hayes, Hannon, both Casey's, Finn, WOD, Cathal o Neill
So lots of questions around some key positions especially center back. Hannon has a lot of miles, was caught for pace last year and fitness is doubtful. Hayes missed most of the league and my question is do management think he is best option at CB or do they think he best serves the team elsewhere? He is a very different player to Hannon, probably not as good a hurler but more physical. WOD struggled at times on Sunday and is always missed at midfield although Lynch and English both did well. They probably would like to try Cathal o Neill back there but he has hardly played this year
We have plenty of options and that's good but also need to start bailing down the spine of the team

Will be interesting to see what happens on Saturday. Its possible the spine of the team could change completely.

Hayes to centre back, WOD to midfield, Cian to centre forward.
Dan could come in at full back.

You would think DOD and CON will need to see some game time also.

It really is a must win game as dropping points now would put you under massive pressure. Should go full tilt and all out with our best team to win it. No time for experiments on this one. Not really Limericks style, but if you can curtail Stephen Bennett you go a long way to beating Waterford. He had a savage game on Sunday.

On a separate note, Adam Hogan has surely run out of lives now. I was delighted Donal Og called it out for what it was. He's a fine player but these kind of actions could come back and hurt him down the line as players will be more motivated on him and refs will treat him as the boy who called wolf too many times.

It needs to be called out regularly now to highlight the offenders, it's an epidemic, a scourge on the game. Refs also need to stop giving these repeat offenders the benefit of the doubt. Time for red cards for blatant diving.

no question but Limerick will put out their best team on Saturday; it just depends on fitness and form but rarely have we gone into a game with so much uncertainty as to our best players and in which positions
There are plenty of options but I think they will want to start nailing down some of the starting positions

I think we need game time for Dan, CON, DOD and Peter Casey, but for some or all it might be off the bench, I think we need a back to form Sean Finn, and I fear Hannon wont play this season.
I have no idea where they will play Hayes or WOD

It really is close to a must win. Five points is likely enough but I would hate to have to face into Cork and Clare, even at home, needing to win both (I think home advantage is a bigger deal for Clare and Waterford than the others). And lose to Waterford and they have the head-to-head in a tie
Also 5 points probably not enough to get to a Munster final

I think the 6 day turnaround for Waterford is a big advantage for us. And yes Waterford come in on a high but that can also be a distraction for them - hard to get up again after that kind of a high
And I am not sure if we really know how good Waterford are - it was a fantastic win, but Clare looked really lethargic.
Going into the Cork game there were all kinds of questions being asked of them, and the comeback against Cork had you still wondering how much if it was down to the red card, and Cork losing the plot or Clare excellence. We still dont know

I agree it's push the red button time on Saturday. No more saving lads with little niggles for later games. I don't think Hannon will start, but what a player he would be to bring in with 15 minutes to go when the game is in the melting pot.

I though Waterford started a little sluggish against Clare but in the second half against the wind they dug in. They won all the battles for the dirty ball and they have plenty players able to use it. The Tippy Tappy overdoing the passing that Limerick have produced in the league (and a little in Thurles) will not work against Waterford. We need to run at them (which is something we haven't been doing this year so far).

Yes I was also making this point, run at them, especially with our big players who can break through the first tackle, our whole success was built on the the likes of Hego and Hayes breaking through the tackle or press then everything opens up ahead and now we seem to have totally stopped doing this and we are always looking for the runner first time. I'd love to see Hego drive at the Waterford half back line much more at the weekend. Forget about playing Cork or Clare, there is only the game on Saturday, play the best players available in the best positions and fire all your guns and see where you are at.

not sure if Hego will even start
Obviously, no idea how training is going but he hasnt been a force in games this year
Right now I'd say - injuries permitting the only certain starters are:
Quaid
Nash, Dan Morrissey, Byrnes, Hayes (could play in forwards), WOD (could play midfield)
English, Lynch (could play in forwards)
O'Brien, Gillane
Thats 9
That would leave six openings for any of Murphy, Coughlan, Finn, Mike Casey, DOD, Peter Casey, Reidy, Hegarty, Cathal O Neill, Aidan O Connor, Tom Morrissey
Hannon unlikely to start since he hasnt played in so long, and Seamus Flanagan unless he is tearing up trees in practice
I cant remember Limerick going into a game with so much uncertainty about the best starting 15
The good side is that some of that is form of newer players (Murphy, Coughlan while O Brien and English are probably nailed on starters) abnd we have lots of options but downside is that some of it is injuries (DOD and Cathal O Neill) but some of it is middling form by the likes of Hegarty, and Tom Morrissey who are usually nailed on starters

In Thurles the last day I think we had a lot of players who performed well. I was very happy with the effort of the half forward line in particular I thought their harrying and pressuring the opposition half backs and midfield was as good as we have seen in a number of years, so even of they were not scoring a freely as other years I though the effort was there.

In Thurles the last day that I would have probably hauled Gillane off at half time, but he totally proved me wrong in the second half so what I know.

The only one I am still a little uneasy about Colin Coughlan. I have seen him do wonderous things in Club hurling matches (often with two fellas hanging off him) however things didn't really go for him in Thurles last day out I felt. The Balls seem to bounce off him and his distribution was not up to the level. He is well capable of breaking a tackle and taking a long range score if he gets the ball into his hand, but I cant recall him winning an aerial battle or getting the ball from a ruck against Tipperary. Also he is such a big man that he can be a little suspect or slow getting to the low ball.

I appreciate it was his first championship start and accept that's why management gave him the full Match to build his experience and I hoping he will be all the better for it, but for me I would be trying Darragh O'Donovan, Will O'Donoghue, Cathal O'Neill or even Dan Morrissey (he played there in 2018) wing back in a must win game
