As it stands, a team can lose FOUR games and still win the All Ireland. Taking this year's Leinster teams, say the table had finished as follows:

Kilkenny 10 pts, Galway 4, Wexford 4, Dublin 4, Offaly 4, Antrim 4

i.e. Kilkenny win all five games and the other five teams win two games each and lose three. Galway, say, come second on points difference and then Kilkenny beat Galway in the provincial final. So Galway have now lost four games and go into the All Ireland quarter finals.

All the angst that's there about teams losing three games in football and this scenario is possible in hurling and it never gets a mention.

But in the GAA we have a lot of people who feel that eliminating teams is unfair and everyone should advance to the next round anyway, rendering the previous games meaningless.

Then on top of this we have the snobbery of "No teams should be eliminated, but if anyone has to be eliminated it should be the Leinster teams"."
Exactly. Cork near lost plot when they were in league relegation 20 years ago. So of course they changed whole thing after event.

On subject in hand. Was glad to be there for great reception for Kildare in Newbridge.

Game that did nothing for ourselves or Kildare.

Should have been left enjoy their great season and worry about the senior next year.

I wasn't including the final, but it will be a long time until there is 1 outstanding team and 5 even teams in Leinster. I do agree that in general there are too many intercounty games.

I would argue that it was good for Dublin but agree on the Joe Mc teams finishing after the final. Its been a couple of weeks since Dublins last game and they needed a runout. They know it's not going to be anything near the intensity of the Limerick game but still it was a run out. Kildare as you say should have been left to celebrate their historic win. I am not sure if any other sport would have a concept where the winners of the lower division rather the playing the weakest team in the top division would play the third strongest, Laois got even a worse deal.

Plenty of time to prepare for that through club SHC and county sessions. As you say, its rather bizarre reward to be handed a thrashing 6 days after either winning or losing in second tier final.

A thrashing is dispiriting no matter what the opposition. I remember being on good junior team that had won 12/13 games league and championship on the trot and as part of "preparing" for final played a senior II side who handed us our bottoms.

It bursts your bubble. We lost the final btw!
