Yes because Munster wasnt as competitive then. Also, Clare were no hopers for Trophys that year. KK and Galway are meant to aspirations of silverware. On top of that, Galway were at home. Surely that alone should have attracted 10 plus Galway fans......

I do think it's high time we flipped the hurling season.

Let the league become the championship and the provincials a stand alone competition.

To be honest across the board hurling and football i think we have absolutely made a complete mess of what should be our premier showcase competitions,

Galway and Kilkenny can easily beat anyone in Munster with the exception of Limerick who are leagues above the rest of Ireland.

Galway would compete just fine in Munster, as would Kilkenny"
Just I must have missed clare being annihilated last year

But would they. They were eleven years in Munster before and won only one game. They have met Waterford twelve times in Championship Hurling and beaten them only once. Though having many fine teams, Galway do not always perform as well as expected.

Lost by 3 in a brilliant game after getting annihilated in 2022, extending your run of not winning a game in Croke Park to 11 years, happy now?

Before they entered Leinster they never beat us OTM. Think they are alot better the last 10 years than they were in the 60s. Waterford had their best ever team back then. Being realistic if we moved them on over to you again they would win more than once in the next 11 years. They have beaten Cork and Tipp fairly comfortably the last 2 years.

They would.

Talking about Galway's record in the 60s, and insinuating that it has relevance to the current side doesn't stack up. Why did mention the record v Waterford as opposed to the record v Tipp? Both Tipp and Waterford play in munster don't they? Tipp were 'big3' last time i checked!! Galway played a lot of those matches v munster teams at munster venues with munster referees. I attended a Galway Waterford knockout game in 2009, where Galway's chance of winning was severely skewed in a negative direction, due to the munster referee on duty that day.

Limerick fans, post 2018, don't feel foolish anyone making daft observations. You meet them on trains coming out of Croker these years, and a lot of them are like green clad 'Doctor Phils', positively eager to engage beaten down fans on the entrails of their 'lack of success' relative to Limerick's recently acquired lofty perch.

As ah Limerick man,we will never give up the munster championship and importance of it,I can't speak for all the counties but winning a munster championship means so much,if you made the munster championship like the league would lose it.look at the two games at the weekend over 70,000 for two second round games.

Well clare didn't get annihilated last year but your not fair long I would have clare/galway around same level and kilkenney/Limerick only a little bit ahead but one thing your missing is Galway/Kilkenney are country miles ahead in leinster and I know wexford have beaten kilkenney but in munster any team can beat Limerick the suppose best team in the country,we have never won 4 games, only tipp and in 19 and we hammered them in the final and only won two games,Galway and kilkenney would have totally change their plans if they were in munster and I know Galway only won game in munster, the planning for Galway and kilkenney in leinster is not the same as the planning in munster for the five counties. You can't compare

And a lovely lofty perch it is too, from which to be looking down on the fallible, the lesser knowledgeables of the game! And I ain't even from Limerick, but it is still nice nonetheless!

Clare 2010/11 was the worst Clare team of my time.

Davy gave us a kick in the league in 2012 but the championship sentiment in the county was very low going into the championship and we had no expectations.

Pope-Benedict I was not casting any dispersions on Galway hurling. I loved the Galway teams of the 80s. The Connollys, P.J. Molloy Sean Silke, Joe Coney etc. were a joy to watch. In the 60's all Waterford had to do was throw the shirt out on the field to beat Galway. However ye won when it mattered most in the final of 2017. Galway were trying to be cute. Came into Munster looking for competition and left when they could not win a game and were straight into the All-Ireland semi final. I would totally agree that the current teams is not the team of the 60s but the 80's were a better team and got results.
The reality is that you or I did not make the provinces and Galway or Antrim are not a Leinster team and it makes a joke of the provincial system. The Wexford man is right that they would have more tittles if the present Galway teams were not in Leinster. I believe if Kilkenny were in Munster for all their greatness would not have as many All_Irelands. If Waterford were In Leinster we would have more than two All_Irelands. It is just the way it is. The provincial system is not the best way to establish All-Ireland champions and has look out lived its best before date.

Waterford beat Galway as late as 2020, or thereabouts and with 14 men for the entire second half.

Yes they did. And tbh I'd have Waterford as favourites if they played Galway tomorrow. But in 2022 and 2023 I think Galway would've beaten them.

One can only speculate about what the results would be between teams that don't clash in championship in any given year. What there's no need to speculate about is that Galway beat Tipp last season, and Cork beat themselves v Galway in 2022. If Galway had played Waterford every year in championship since and including 1975, it's reasonable imo to speculate that Galway would have more than one championship win over Waterford in the record books.

Weren't Waterford all ireland finalists in 2020? Galway have been slightly, or more than slightly washed up since the 2018 all-ireland final loss. Waterford beat everyone bar Limerick in 2020 knockout fare.

I'd put Galway and Tipp in the same boat right now. A mixture of older players who've been there and done that and won't be doing it again, with a cohort of talented young players that as a whole don't appear to carry the capacity to win all-ireland titles. A hopeless mix really, especially when trying to measure up with Limerick's level.

Galway 2024 would still be competitive in munster though. OTM scrambling back 60 years or so to try to find evidence that we wouldn't be.

I agree cityman, the Munster hurling championship in it's current guise is absolute riveting stuff. The tight games over the last few years are testament to that, and even though Cork are probably going out next week, I still wouldn't change it.
For Galway and KK in Leinster, there is no jeopardy, and therefore it's shadow boxing until the Leinster final. The rest of the teams in Leinster are just not at the races, and recent results bolster that.

Galway definitely would have. Especially the 1980s when Galway were probably the best team in Ireland. Think we only have two, but we didn't play them at all until 2003.
