We didn't beat them in a Championship game between the AI final in 1956 and the qualifier in 2016. Granted we didn't play them that often in Championship but we lost 3 AI finals to them in the 70s.

I don't know where we will be without Tadgh, Jamie,Curran, Stephen and a lesser extent Prunty who is not that old but injury prone. The two Fitzgeralds are good but have they the physique to be better. There are more Fitzgeralds Josh and Seamus who might make it. Caharach Daly (cruciate) and Sean Callaghan (cruciate) and don't know how Sean Walsh disappeared after a good league. Austin Gleeson, Conor Gleeson and Shane McNulty may play but one wonders are their best days behind them. Minors and U20 not giving much. The U20 were young this year and Ken needs to do more with them. Hope we are not in the lean spell of the 80's again. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2702 - 28/05/2024 21:30:36 2548044 Link 0 |

TDB is my favourite Waterford hurler. He is superb.

Tomas waters going down injured against Wexford for a start. The big teams took a year off too. That said, you still had to win your games which you did. If you offered it to me I'd take the arm and all off you lucky or not. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 2817 - 29/05/2024 13:01:05 2548138 Link 0 |
For one, a mullocker of a corner-back swinging a hit-and-hope swipe at the ball toward the goals when the game should have already been blown up, and hallelujah the ball goes over the bar for the equalizer. Put the same man out there again in the same position, even with no-one on him and 9 times out of 10, he'd drive it wide...and well wide. That was extreme luck and the ref allowing the game to continue until that stage was also luck. But like yourself, I was delighted that it happened.

Like most of your posts your countryman Mark Twains famous quote comes to mind. It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. Westfester (Limerick) - Posts: 946 - 29/05/2024 19:19:55 2548242 Link 5 |
Arguably it was Cork that was blessed with a shocking referee performance that kept them in the game that day.

Sorry but how was that luck? He went for a point, and got it,, nailed it actually, under extreme pressure. Brilliantly taken score. Where was the luck? Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1779 - 29/05/2024 22:38:11 2548268 Link 0 |

Height of disrespect calling an All Ireland winning corner back a mullocker

I completely agree LRH. I was right behind O'Donovan when he struck that ball and although it broke our hearts, it was a sublime point. BTW the goals kept us hanging in there that day, and Clare thoroughly deserved that AI.

In all Fairness Viking, I was at that 1970 Final and Wexford had four players off injured that day, although Cork won easily enough in the end. Thankfully, you never hear Wexford Supporters going on about it, like other counties, who lose, when they have a few injured players. The 76 and 77 Final losses were narrow and could possibly have been avoided if the very talented Seanie Kinsella had been selected. The 76 Final was clearly lost due to very poor free taking, something Kinsella was excellent at..

I wouldn't think he'd be too worried what anybody calls him, he's got the medal.
