I wouldn't agree with such a broad statement about Clare people in general, but in fairness, Clare have let themselves down badly in this one too. As outlined even in a story in today's Examiner, they complained last Monday to Jarlath Burns about how the quarter-finals were fixed for such an early time on a Saturday, saying it was bad for any effort to promote hurling. But when they got the opportunity a few days later to change things to a better time on the Sunday instead, they voted against it, presumably because it was Wexford who were the main ones seeking the change. Wouldn't tar all Clare people with the one brush as "an awful bunch of people", but the ones involved in that could hardly be described as "daycent folks" either. Agree with you lohansred helmet. It's very unfair for anyone to say that people from a certain county are "awful" that's hurtful and totally untrue. You can't tar everybody with the same brush and make wild and inaccurate statements like that. Every county or country for that matter has good and bad in them. We in Wexford are no better or worse than other counties. I think Storystash should apologise to the people of Clare for his outlandish and totally inaccurate hurtful outburst. Talk to any hurling person from anywhere. There's nobody that wouldn't love to have Mac.

I get what your saying, the timing of this game and location does leave an awful lot to be desired, especially with the feile going on, it's beggars belief with the throw in times, especially as the Leinster final was thrown in at 7pm with no issue. If I was a wexford supporter I too would be raging with these decisions. But to call Clare people awful is sad. I've spent a lot of time down there and they are among the finest people I've met. I couldn't fault them.

Hard on Wexford fans alright. Hopefully some manage to get to the game. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1463 - 18/06/2024 13:39:35 2552721 Link 0 |
Don't mind him. That's an awful sweeping generalisation to make about Clare people. I know a lot of very sound Clare folk. Having said that, I didn't like the way Clare supporters in the Killinan end loudly booed Chin when he was taking frees two years ago. I was very surprised as I didn't expect that from Clare fans. The bottom line is that a lot of Wexford 'fans' will opt of of travelling to thurles on Saturday just because it's a difficult place to get to from Wexford…this happened in 2022 when there was a shockingly bad turnout of Wexford fans. If it was a semi final or final in Croke Park, every Tom, Dick and Harry would be there with their purple and gold on. The true supporters will be in attendance on Saturday notwithstanding the unfortunate people who will miss it due to the feile.

Visit Clare regularly and find the people really decent. Would have no gra though for Lohan and some of their officials.I remember them accusing Wexford of playing guys with Covid in Ennis, Davy getting verbally abused by a Clare official in the stand the same year in portlaoise and another back room member getting involved in a spat again this year v Waterford. This week they voted against the fixture change. As kevin keegan famously said…. I would just love it if we beat them…. Hoping it's on Saturday HurlingBuzz (Wexford) - Posts: 528 - 18/06/2024 14:26:07 2552739 Link 2 |
How can you say 3/4 have no involvement? On holidays this week and back on Saturday morning but I know our club have had people involved in everything from hosting to catering to stewarding to everything else that goes with running this event. The Feile is a great opportunity for the county to show their best side, and is a county wide effort. For the upshot of that to be that they couldn't go to an All-Ireland quarter final is really disrespectful of the GAA on the volunteer ethos of the clubs. GAA democracy at its worst, why couldn't the CCCC just fix the game and not have a vote? Why did they need a vote here? And what difference did it make to Galway or whoever when it was on? Let just stick to the game lads, no point getting involved in anything else it is what it is and it will stop the like of lohanshelmet or whatever he called. just picking out the odd random negative think been said about Clare. Let focus on Wexford and the game from here on in. hunting (Wexford) - Posts: 1017 - 18/06/2024 14:38:53 2552741 Link 0 |

Hosting and catering is normally done by parents of the players involved . Stewarding will need volunteers from the club to be fair but the vast majority of people from Wexford who cant go saturday are under 14 players involved in feile and their parents. I agree though it is a major own goal by the GAA and the CCC should have just fixed the game for Nowlan Park saturday night or Thurles on Sunday

Clare are missing Taylor. Was their best player against us in 2022. TK and Ryan only back. Hogan and Rodgers are only 21 or 22. Lohan around the same. Will all be on the day.

I'll be there. Our bandwaggoners won't be out unless we have a game in Croke Park. A large percentage of our diehards will be involved with Feile. We will have even less there than in 2022. Sadly.

Don't mind him . He's a long time in Australia at this stage. Tact isn't something Australians are famous for. At the same time you can't blame people down here for being annoyed with your Board. I know Lohan wants every competitive advantage possible, and I guess us having less supporters and one day's less rest are small advantages, but these are surely only very small advantages.

Yep completely agree, this idea sure it's only a few parents involved is way off the mark

Same as myself viking. We had only around 5k there in 2022. This notion that we have ''great'' supporters is wide off the mark

We have very fond memories here in Ennis of Feile in Wexford. We won the tournament in 1999 in Wexford playing Glen Rovers in the final. Great time for the club and fantastic trophy to win. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2679 - 18/06/2024 16:17:43 2552777 Link 0 |
