Free to air and this past weekend in the GAA SFC we had two free to air matches and two pay for! bogger from meath (Meath) - Posts: 226 - 06/07/2023 18:55:28 2492740 Link 1 |
Free to air does not belong to all things gaa, we have other sports, things and priorities are changing, etc.

If all games are free to air, it will have an impact on crowds attending games. There is a balance to be found between free to air and people paying to watch games. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8784 - 07/07/2023 12:17:11 2492868 Link 0 |
At least there is a demand for these games. I'd love to see how many watch the women's soccer friendlies, or even their competitive games. Fair play to FAI for convincing people that this is important even though crowds are of one man his dog proportions in WLOI. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3520 - 07/07/2023 12:47:50 2492878 Link 0 |
Hard for them to attract many to games without some publicity. Same way LGFA on TG4 did it, then getting Lidl on board helped them to attract more girls in to play LGFA football.

You have to look after the rich and the elite, if it wasn't on free to air D4 would take over the Joe Duffy phone in. updwell (Limerick) - Posts: 899 - 07/07/2023 13:30:00 2492911 Link 1 |
Fair play to them. Their marketing of an inferior product puts GAA to shame. Remember too when this sport was allowed continue when our games were stopped during the plague years? They punch above their weight. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3520 - 07/07/2023 13:43:15 2492921 Link 0 |
Eh yeah that's because nobody will pay for them. You understand the model yeah?

They're friendlies though. I doubt very much if they were on a pay per view basis there would be too many takers!

????? Nobody will pay for them all on the TV not for tickets to the game.

Against soccer? I don't like soccer and from what I've seen of it, women's soccer is even worse. nothing to do with it being played by women. Women's gaelic football is great game and I've been at a fair few games over the years and it's often better TV than the senior men's for entertainment. Well that wouldn't be too difficult now would it.

In 2022, RTE aired FTA 17 SFC matches. bogger from meath (Meath) - Posts: 226 - 07/07/2023 17:40:24 2492996 Link 1 |
You spoke specifically about women's soccer. Just because you don't like soccer doesn't mean it's "an inferior product." Billions of people play, watch and support soccer. I love Gaelic games as played by men and women. I also thoroughly enjoy soccer. RTÉ are dead right to broadcast the women's soccer matches. It's great for young girls to see the national team getting the exposure they and their exploits deserve.

Minor games and club matches are often better entertainment than mens senior intercounty fare too but I'd still rather watch the latter because it's a far higher standard, and it's natural that when people watches sport they want to watch it played at the highest level. I'm sure the wloi provides some fantastic games but that doesn't change the fact that the us womens team recently lost 12-0 (the game was abandoned at 40 minutes) to a bunch of Wrexham retirees. Gender equality in sport is an artificial social construct, a complete lie, whether we like it or not. Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 07/07/2023 20:32:02 2493019 Link 0 |

Billions of people watch soap operas and listen to "music" made by computers and drum machines. It's still rubbish. Lowest common denominator sells, My point re women's soccer is that even as part of that LCD very few people could be bothered watching it and yet the myth is being created that the entire country is interested. Attendances and viewing figures suggest that they are not. Same goes for women's rugby by the way. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3520 - 08/07/2023 07:08:09 2493054 Link 0 |
