Replying To Cockney_Cat:  "This a public forum, where people are free to give their opinions. That's the point of a forum. Should we ban all negative comments about commentators, players and coaches, and only allow comments that praise them?
That's what you get in totalitarian states, where all comments and opinions that don't agree with the general consensus are suppressed, and the people who make them imprisoned or worse.
I don't like Marty as a commentator, that's my opinion, OK?"
Marty is obviously very popular and knows how to get a crowd going, but like Coackney_Cat, I can't take to him as a commentator. Last weekend, for instance, I lost count of the number of times he said "never in doubt" after Gillane or Kelly had pointed a free, but he never tells us that in advance! Besides, he frequently misidentifies players. Personally I find Darragh Maloney the best of the RTE commentators, but in general the TG4 commentators are better.

Replying To ForeverBlue2:  "Marty is an ok commentator and an awful lot better than who done the Leinster hurling final on Sunday… was it Ger Canning…? He didn't even know which team was which….! I would say Marty took what Joe Brolly said with a pinch of salt and it didn't upset him one bit…. I'd say he'd be a good character to have a few pints with if he drinks at all that is…."
Ger Canning should be retired,Marty way better

Honestly love Marty Morrissey.

I'm days gone by I thought canning was great but he seems to be gone a bit disinterested or something.

You can tell by martyrs voice he just gets completely absorbed in a game which is great.

The thought crossed my mind after watching both provincial finals, I think leinster would have seemed just as exciting if he was doing both

I also love his efforts at pronouncing the name of my club which isn't said right anywhere north of the bullring in wexford Town

I think you have to hand it to him.

How could anyone want to bring this man who hurts no one and is colourful in his own way. He is a treasure to many people. He won't be with us forever so to those who enjoy him, do. To those who don't, let him alone and find some other hobby horse to ride on. To me he is both competent and easy to have in your sitting room.

Replying To BarneyGrant:  "He is certainly by a far a nicer person and a more positive contributor to the GAA and all that goes with it than the chap who made a nasty personal attack on him. Something that appeared to have genuinely hurt him by all accounts."
You'll find the chap apologised and deeply regrets it and is also regularly swamped for pics and autographs and obliges all in good humour. 2 legends and it's highly unlikely you're entitled to high horse about his character and contribution to the GAA.

He actually gave me one of my favourite moments.

We were down and out for a few years and hadn't been in a leinster final since 08.

Right before the ball was thrown in for the 2017 leinster final he quoted JFK speech in wexford. It took 157 years, 6,000 miles and 3 generations but we're finally home. This is cultural, this is spiritual, this is hurling, this is what if feels like for wexford. Welcome back to Croke Park.

It was exactly what it felt like for us and was genuinely moving.

He also gives a good go at pronouncing my club correctly which even people in wexford struggle with

Too true and it was just as insulting to Cavan football at the time and all taken in good humour….

I'm as entitled to be on the same "high horse" as you seem to keep out the back. As for your friend, if he can use his high profile to attack people then he can have little excuse if someone criticises him.

Now in his defence here, since I moved to Wexford I have heard them called "Faith" Harriers and "Foi-ght" Harriers and even a few people involved in the club say "Were just the Harriers, nothing else"!

Marty is a legend. Full of enthusiasm, very funny and a regular nice guy. Wish there were more like him.

I don't know the man. Your criticism of him was a cheap shot under the guise of praising Marty. Faint praise. There's nothing high-horsey about pointing that out.

He said, "I know a little Latin: anicus anicae"
I Said, "I don't know what it means," he said, "Neither do I"
