I wouldnt say there is too many stadiums. there is too many poorly equipped stadiums."
It really depends on where the stadium is. Plenty of the grounds would be much better placed somewhere else in the county. I would argue that any stadium work should be completed with Public Transport - particularly rail links in mind.

Our 2 most "modern" stadiums in Dublin and Cork are not best placed for getting large amounts of spectators in and out of. You can only really drive to them - or face quite a large walk. Neither are built with ease of access in mind.

I would argue that the money spent on Pairc Ui Chaoimh would have been much better spent elsewhere on a new ground in Cork better linked.

Take Galway for example - its very difficult to get to Salthill - if there is a lot of work needed there in the future (years ahead) why not consider moving to the other side of the city - say Oranmore or Athenry - much easier with access to the M6 / M17 / M18 - plus it would be near the main train line.

Deumcondra Station is a few minutes walk from Croke Park .
Salthill is a disaster location.

'Quite a large walk'! As vague as the rest of your post. Tuam Stadium, ever heard of it?

Yes, for soccer.

The GAA has loads of white elephant stadiums that are never full.

Or else just go back to Connaught for yourself if you want or Munster

Not that many
Does Dublin have 80k beds?

Athlone is on a train line to Galway, Limerick, Dublin so you wouldn't have to stay the night

It's the same as Dublin for Ulster teams
But don't forget they are getting a new shiny stadium in Belfast

Athlone is no more than a two-hour drive from any of the places mentioned by yourself or the other poster. It's only about 1 hour 15 mins from Cavan. Would you really want an overnight stay for a journey that short????

What is capacity of O Moore park, Port Laois. Surely that is the venue to be developed.

Agree 100%. Most central venue.

Wexford wouldnt even win the Connacht hurling championship at the minute even without Galway in it!

That was where I was on about, close to the M7 on mainline rail lines. Cross-country from many places like Wexford and Galway but a lot easier than Croke Park to get to for much of the country.
It could be a small bit smaller than Thurles but would suit many hurling matches if it was 40k.
Capacity is 22k per Google.

Yes - Tuam stadium; used to get a fair few games but not for a while. Seems to be the Galway equivalent of Athy. Good in it's day.

Maybe Salthill is easy to get to from Castlebar but it's been a nightmare any time I've been there.

The three toughest grounds to get to in my experience are Salthill, Pairc ui Caoimh and Croke Park.

Portlaoise is a fine venue in many ways, but not much space at any side of it to extend stand or terraces in order to accommodate approximately double the current capacity.

You could extend the stand from the back a bit all right, but then you'd lose all the parking spaces and some or all of one of both pitches behind the stand (which are part of the Laois Centre of Excellence).

Which links in with other things to be considered. Would the venue still be Laois County Board's and the Laois county grounds? Or would it be a communal (for want of a better word) GAA facility, in the manner of Croke Park? All sorts of issues either way re. ownership/management/maintenance etc., not to mention how the development would be paid for in the first place.

Outskirts of Mullingar would be ideal, just off N4 and bang in the centre of the country.

We could win Leinster next year all the same. We have won Leinster more recently than you have.
