Tomsmith here

I was thinking that the Ton Doonan was probally the best fullback ever in Cavan
But Jack Cosgrove would be the best in Connaugh
Paudie Sheehy in Munster, but the daddy
of them all was Michael Lyons in Leinster
Michael Lyons who was locally called Mick Lyons had it all , Brains, strength, great positing and above all, a distributor of the Ball.

Tomsmith for your information Ton Doonan never played for Cavan. His uncle Willie Doonan did. But he was a corner back . Never played full back.
Hope that info helps .

Paudie Shhehy played left-full forward. His brother Niall was the full-back.
John O'Keeffe was the best I ever watched. Had it all: speed, athleticism, strength, skills, brilliant fielder and kicker of the ball.
Had the opportunity when on holidays of watching him and Denny Long (Cork) at midfield for a Tralee team. The best midfield pairing I ever saw.
I remember as far back as Paddy Bawn Brosnan for Kerry in 1952 in the Munster final.

Good call ardmhaca! Lillian Thuram was fairly daycent but id go for Marius Tresor meself for France! He skinned Trevor Francis at his peak! But the best i saw in the flesh was Beckenbauer, Rijkaard, Maldini, and, Baresi!

Yes I was wrong in relation Sheehy and I know that to apologize is a sign of weakness but I will be big enought and say I was wrong. Yes Francie Bellew was one of the best , but he could hit you a Hoak . Lyons was clean

Yes, a class act! An 18 year old Ronan Clarke scored 3 from play on him in the AI final in 02 - shows how underrated that man was also.

Tomsmith, its not often I like to sing the praises of Meath Football and as a Cavan man I'm sure you are the same but when I saw the post Mick Lyons was the first name that came to mind.
