Croke Park is considered a neutral venue as Dublin's home venue is Parnell Park. Due to capacity constraints, they opt for Croke Park for their home matches. In the Super 8's Dublin had two matches at Croker, their home match and match at neutral venue Jack L (None) - Posts: 3138 - 30/04/2024 15:54:36 2541905 Link 0 |
Dublin did not have two games in Croke Park in group stage!

They did in the so called "Super 8s" Remember when Donegal moaned about it they were accused of being mean spirited and devisive etc. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1870 - 01/05/2024 12:54:07 2542225 Link 1 |
Yes they did. One against Donegal and the other against Roscommon. Read your history. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 989 - 01/05/2024 13:01:02 2542231 Link 4 |
40k for a non-knockout game where both teams could possibly already be qualified seems a bit of a stretch to me.

Limerick would be more accessible actually. Motorway. Thurles ain't easy to get to from Mayo. Hyde Park be ideal. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11379 - 01/05/2024 13:16:29 2542241 Link 0 |
There wasn't a 'neutral' round in the Super 8's though. There was a 'Croke Park' Round instead iirc. It was a stupid idea, with the obvious problem of giving Dublin 2 home games. County delegates from all over the country signed off on that lest we forget. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13778 - 01/05/2024 13:25:12 2542246 Link 3 |
If both are on 2 wins each, the winner goes directly to the quarter-finals. The current format design is offering that as a carrot.

Bugs Bunny wouldn't get as many carrots as the GAA are offering to give the 'bigger' counties more championship games.

Cavan Roscommon for Carrick or Longford? TheMackAttack (Cavan) - Posts: 6 - 01/05/2024 23:22:19 2542360 Link 0 |
I'd say Dublin fans would travel for the prospect of a decent match. Can't be much craic heading to Croker every two weeks to watch Dublin walk all over the opposition

Perhaps they might have a double header at Croke Park. Dublin Vs Mayo and Galway Vs Armagh would bring a sizable crowd. with the following benefits Jack L (None) - Posts: 3138 - 02/05/2024 09:29:28 2542399 Link 0 |
But both sets of fans would know that they'd have a knockout game coming up, either the next weekend or the weekend after in anyways. You'd get a decent crowd alright , but I don't think you'd get the 40k the original post was predicting. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13778 - 02/05/2024 10:08:06 2542406 Link 0 |
Galway v Armagh brought only a few thousand to Carrick last Summer. Dublin will have to play their Neutral game outside of Dublin. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1870 - 02/05/2024 10:28:14 2542409 Link 0 |
Have the GAA actually admitted Croke Park is Dublin's home ground? I have a feeling if it Mayo v Dublin in the group stage playing for top of the group the GAA will be doing their best to get that game in Croke Park tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1176 - 02/05/2024 20:49:34 2542545 Link 0 |
Have the GAA stopped publishing Dublin's attendance figures for the league? Should Dublin return to Parnell Park for league games and invest in any necessary improvements like all other county boards do? legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8201 - 02/05/2024 21:46:06 2542550 Link 0 |
We didn't moan, we actually tried to do something about it and brought a motion to GAA Congress in 2019 to deal with it. If it had passed, it would have meant that no team could have used Croke Park as both a home venue and a neutral venue. The proposal was defeated by a 64pc majority. Dublin's GAA John Costello described the motion as "divisive and mean-spirited", former GAA former president Seán Kelly from Kerry and Wexfords Tony Dempsey and Meath's Francis Flynn also spoke against the motion, with Kelly describing it as negative. Given all that, no county can now complain about Dublin having Croke Park as a neutral and a home venue, your county boards all had their opportunity to change it but didn't back the motion.

Over 20,000 a match. Wouldn't bother Dublin or us county pass holders if it's Parnell. Hurling people far prefer it especially.

Unless they hold a special Congress to alter the procedure there is no chance that any neutral game involving Dublin be moved to CP.

You may be correct but if that situation arises and Mayo want/insist a venue outside either county???
