New York, New York!! Shootout Win Over Leitrim!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well, I did predict a NY win. It was only a matter of time before us Americans started beating you Irish at Gaelic football. Bring on Sligo now. While a far better footballing county than Leitrim, they're still within NY's reach and don't let anybody be surprised to see an American team in the Connaught final. That's provided our guys don't go too mad celebrating their history-making Easter Sunday. It'll be music to the ears to hear the Star-Spangled Banner ring out across the Mayo air. Perhaps, Joe will even make a quick return visit to the county!

You're right 25,000, and we were all at it. Gaelic Park is gonna turn into another 1916 or Thomond Park when Munster beat the All-Blacks in 1978. Every Tom, Dick and Harry and dog on the street was there.

Think they said 4 home grown players for new York as well, they have been strong at feile,be great to see them improving and bringing more home grown players through, they are at a great disadvantage with no league,so brilliant to see, enjoy.

When we played Kerry in an All Ireland final in New york in 1947 we could have had 10,000 supporters . Kerry also had a few , Most kerry folk dident travel as they expected Kerry to win. How wrong they were.
Cavan won this All irealnd"
Did Cavan win the All Ireland in 1947?

Connacht is a joke?? Three division one teams, league champions, all Ireland finalists from last year who tanked ye in semi finals while all the time ye continue to serve up "football" that would make a healthy dog regurgitate its dinner.

Munster had 4 counties in the final 16 last year. 67%.
Current projected provincial representation this year:
Connacht 4/7 57%
Ulster 5/9 55%
Munster 3/6 50%
Leinster 4/11 36%

Very interesting to see that a large number of the New York squad including 5 starters only transferred in within the last month, I'm fairly sure you must play club championship before playing for an intercounty team here in Ireland surely the same rule should apply in New York.

Indeed......Have no time for this rubbish.

Imagine the squeals there'd be if Dublin or Kerry were attracting players from elsewhere to their squads by whatever means. Yet one team in the championship is allowed to do it brazenly.

I don't see the argument for including them in the championship, but if they are to be in it then they should have to play by the same competitive and financial rules as everyone else.

It still doesn't take away from the result. Leitrim had 7 competitive games under their belt coming into this game. NY had zero. You won't win any game missing goal chance after goal chance... depending on one man to kick frees and points... and clearly the team were not prepared for penalties. Leitrim supporters deserve better than this... there's lots of money being raised and spent on GAA in the county. This should be a serious wake-up call for everyone involved in GAA in the county at all levels.

Would rather have NY in instead of Meath.

To be fair to Leitrim, I thought they were very unlucky.

Was it warm in New York?

A hot humid/day there would be a great leveller for a team used to those conditions, regardless of number of games Leitrim played. Add to that a fatigue element from travel and several tight matches in the weeks beforehand. We just have to look at our provincial rugby teams recent performances in warmer climates (and they're professional).

The provincials are probably coming to an end but Connacht counties ain't no joke. We took 1st, 2nd and 3rd in division 1 this year. Sligo have just beaten Mayo in the u20 final this evening. Their underage and college football has been very impressive as of late. Connacht counties are on the rise and ain't no joke. You won't see any of them playing defensive **** either.
