New York, New York!! Shootout Win Over Leitrim!

Replying To mikeyjoe:  "About 2500. Might be a few hundred more due to some watching from the hill behind the MC goal."
There was definitely more than 2.5k at the game. There was supposedly 5k at the game last year v Sligo... and it definitely was a bigger crowd than that. RTE reported 8-9k... now I'd be shocked if it was that much but it was a big crowd. The facilities in Gaelic Park were atrocious... can't understand why the clubrooms were demolished if a building wasn't ready to be built. It's time the GAA in NY got a decent ground to play games in.

Replying To Rolo2010:  "They won't get anywhere near the Tailteann. Too many strong teams. Clare, Westmeath, Offaly, Fermanagh. Even Limerick will be a threat despite their awful league."
Westmeath are in the Sam Maguire as Tailteann Cup winners. Clare or Limerick will also now be in Sam Maguire. Meath look likely to be the team to drop out.

Replying To yew_tree:  "Quite a few Leitrim fans seem to be blaming Andy Moran. Look the buck stops at the manger so maybe it is but Leitrim have had narrow escapes before so I don't think all the blame can be landed at management.

One thing I would not agree with is RTE cameras having access to a training session before the game. It's enough of a circus as it is. As James Horan said you treat it as a normal championship game, get in and get out."
Now is not the time to criticise Andy or the team. We lost move on & prepare for Tailteann Cup. We are still a good side and six weeks gives us time to get over this defeat and get done of the injured players back.

Meath have to beat Offaly and either louth or Westmeath and they in it proper. Still hopeful and I'd say Kildare could be the ones to drop out as they'd have to beat dubs to secure it.

Yeah fair enough although after a decent start in the league Meath were dreadful thereafter. Big improvement needed.

Back in the 1950s and 60s Gaelic Park had much bigger capacity and larger fan base. The maximum back then was about 6000. A lot of stands were removed during the remodel.

Tomsmith Cavan here

When we played Kerry in an All Ireland final in New york in 1947 we could have had 10,000 supporters . Kerry also had a few , Most kerry folk dident travel as they expected Kerry to win. How wrong they were.

Huge improvement needed. Taking nothing for granted. I think vast majority of Meath people myself included will settle for another humbling from Dublin once we can get into all ire proper. That been said if they bring the league form all 3 of Offaly Westmeath and louth in particular would beat them.

How in any view are Leitrim a "good side" ????? 5th in D4 is now considered good?

I was there and I'm telling you there was significantly more than 2.5k. It was actually closer to 6k I'm being told... completely over capacity. For all the money in NY GAA, they'd want to invest a bit on the ground.

Was at the game! It was packed. Good Leitrim support and a huge turnout from NYC!
Fair play to the New York lads! They travel from all over NYC to train some of them commuting 3 plus hours round trips! No proper warm up games, limited (if any) expenses etc.
tailteain cup is a big incentive for them since it came in! They ran Sligo close last year and will challenge them again this year - if they get the right preparation
Hard luck to Leitrim - not easy on them to travel to NYC and play - I think they'll go alright in Tailteain cup!
