Mayo pre saw doctors would have been 'Moonlight in Mayo". Meath is Beautiful Meath. Not every county has a song. When Roscommon reached the All Ireland Final in 1980, a song called 'The Men of Roscommon" was penned but not sure it really took off. The Offaly Rover is a lovely anthem for the Faithful. Cavan have Cavan girl but Come home Paddy Reilly is also a Cavan song penned by Roscommon's Percy French who unfortunately never composed a song about his native county.

I came across a utube piece on County songs
Some were very familiar like Rose of Mooncoin and the banks and the west awake, others less familiar and a few they made up
Dublin was Raglan Rd???
My own county song is Follow me up to Carlow which is a great ballad about a Wicklow man
I much prefer The red yellow and Green by Derek Ryan
Anyway general Comments or Comments particular to your county welcome"
For me (and others), the true Kilkenny song is not the Rose of Mooncoin, it's The Moon behind the Hill.

We have any amount of them to be fair.

Chúchulainns son, Bobby rackard from killane, boolavouge, who fears to speak of 98, Kelly the boy from killane, the boys of wexford, dancing at the crossroads, purple and gold.

Immediately after the leinster final in 19 Croke Park played boolavouge.

On the way there, the lad on the speaker in bray dart Station put on the boys of wexford when he saw us all coming in 17 which was sort of a homecoming for us. It was pretty moving.

Another standout memory would be the immediate aftermath of 96 final. Every street in wexford Town had a street party. A load of food from petits, everyone had barbecues out, trax music store provided speakers etc. The team arrived with the cups and dancing at the crossroads has been on repeat since. I wouldn't change it.

I would like to see just one more before my day comes though.

Replying To Roscom-man:  "Roscommon is usually 1 of 3 songs played in Croke Park after a league win, don't know what we'd play if we won a championship game there; Men of Roscommon (go marching again), The Rose of Castlerea or Lough Ree (Where the Three Counties Meet) although Back in Roscommon has been heard too.

Cavan - The Gallant John Joe or Come Back Paddy Reilly.

Longford - Longford On My Mind

Derry - The Town I loved So Well"
New Roscommon song "Roscommon People" is a good bit of crack. Wish a few young lads would learn it off and get the supporters going!

The music, chorus and words is based on the Pulp song "Common People".

Louths song is the Woods of County Louth sung by the great 1957 winning All Ireland Captain Dermot O Brien.

Donegal song definitely Las Vegas in the hills of Donegal . Remember the Donegal folk singing it after we win the final in 2012 seems a long way off now.

The Turfman from 'Ardee'. was the Louth Anthem, I thought. Sung by the late Dermot O'Brien.

There are numerous songs about South Derry but I think they are republican ballads. I have a VHS tape that was released after 1993 with the Derry bus parade and songs playing over it. I don't know that they are as I haven't watched it in years.

Surely you must have sang a few bars of "Carlingford Bay" Ollie.

Replying To foreveryoung:  "Fixed a few of these for ya:

Meath: Kings of Wishful Thinking by Go West

Cavan: Money, Money by ABBA

Although, it's so long since Cavan won anything that they probably wouldn't like such modernity as an ABBA song, and they would prefer to staunchly stick to their famed old traditional Cavan ballad:

The Miser's Lament for the Farthing!"

The Moon behind the hill is a lovely song. A Kilkenny song "My own sweet Nore" is part of the lyrics.
