NFL Divison 3 Predictions 2023

(Oldest Posts First)

ust to keep us going said Ide do this again this year:

Allianz FL Division 3 round 1- Saturday games
Fermanagh v Longford, Ederney, 2pm - hfard game to call this, Fermanagh at home always hard to beat - Longford will have some sort of buzz about them after winning the O'Byrne cup - could it be the pep to get them over the line- possibly not - Fermanagh 1-12 Longford 1-10
Tipperary v Down, FBD Semple Stadium, 6pm - Interesting to see how Down go with their new set up - I think they will be alot better than other years - Tippeary capable of beating them any almost any team in this division on their day, but hard to see them beating Down here - Down 1-14 Tipperary 0-12
Westmeath v Cavan, TEG Cusack Park, 2pm(Sunday) isnt this a repeat of Tailteann final?...Westmeath will be surely out to build on that win, and progress, Cavan are Cavan, well capable of pulling out top class performance any day but dont do it consistently, not really aware of any major talent coming through. Reluctantly going for Westmeath here 1-15 Cavan 0-14 (this came could be a draw)
Antrim v Offaly, Corrigan Park, 2pm (Sunday) - a tough away game for new Offaly boss and indeed panel one could say...no little about Antrim over recent months but at home are dogged team to get over -Offaly should have the firepower to get the scores to get something out of this game, Offaly 0-13 Antrim 0-11 (dont be surprised if its a draw)

HAHA, fair play for starting this up : )

Fermanagh v longford, i suppose with Longford winning the O Byrne cup they will go to fermanagh full of confidence, but got to take into account fermanagh played 2 big hitters in tyrone and derry in the McKenna cup which will stand them to good stead.
Fermanagh at home will be tough and defensive which could cause problems to longford who will look to kick ball in early, I'll go for the draw.

Tipp V Down, me being a down man I'm going for ourselves to get off to a good start here, we've had 3 tough games against Monaghan, Donegal and Derry winning 2 and drawing other ( beat on pens ) also with Conor Lavery in charge there seems to be some confidence coming back into the county team, but a win is needed here to set ourselves up for a good league.
Tipp will be a tough team to beat tho especially at home and have some top players, fancy a high scoring game with Down coming home with the points.

Westmeath v Cavan, last years Tailteann cup finalists, this even in week one is a big game especially for the winners.
Cavan beat a strong armagh team in the Mckenna cup and will be looking to get back to div 2 and i fancy them to finish in the top 2 in the league. if they were at home i would fancy cavan but Westmeath under Dessie will be a good watch and since they our at home i think they could get ba draw here.

Antrim V Offaly, For me Antrim have to win this game as they our away to Down next so its important they get something out of this otherwise they will be up against it for rest of league, likewise Offaly who were unlucky to get releagted from div 2 will want to get of to a good start if they want to get back there so its a must win also for them, so with that a will again sit on the fence with a draw.

Big league for Offaly players, and John Kearns. No easy games, staying in Div. 3 will be a good start. I expect a difficult opener v Antrim in Belfast, probably a draw.

Cavan had a big win yesterday in this division, as had Fermanagh, and then Down and Offaly..making next round of games more enticing for yesterdays winners, by winning next day promotion is in mindset, yesterdays losers will be out to get back on firm ground...

I headed down to Tipp on sat and Down played some great football especially in the first half, once man got sent off we lost our way a little but kept scoreboard ticking over and fully deserved the 2 points.
Big win for Cavan away to Westmeath, this puts pressure on Westmeath this coming weekend.

Great wins for fermanagh and Offaly also and with a break after this weekends games teams will be targeting 2 wins from 2 to set themselves up for a promotion push.

NFL DIV 3 Rd 2 weekend 4/5th Feb 2023

Down v Antrim, Páirc Esler - Down had a good away win in Tipp last week and were impressive particulary in 1st half. Antrim were the opposite and had a great second half agains us Offaly in Belfast. Will be tighter than many think but one would think Down will have enough to get through here - Down 2-15 Antrim 0-13
Cavan v Tipperary, Kingspan Breffni, 2pm - while I midlander I always liked Cavan, they had a goo win in Mullingar last day, a surprise to some people but not me, balancing out that as to how bad people thought Cavan are and how good people think Westmeath are. Tipp lost last day, and its hard to see them scoring enough here to get over Cavan who will be happy with their first outing win last week. Cavan 1-16 Tipperary 1-12
Offaly v Fermanagh, Glenisk O'Connor Park, 2pm - Offaly had a good away win, Fermangh had a good home win. Offaly were excellent in 1st half apparently before running out of steam towards end, that happens at this time of year in particular. Fermanagh are a dogged tough team, can get scores when needed. at home Offaly have an advantage, we may get enough scores to get over the line possibly or a draw. Offaly 0-15 Fermanagh 0-13 (or a draw)
Longford v Westmeath, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, 2pm - two teams who lost last day, Longford away and Westmeath at home. Longford are home here this week. Westmeath had a poor return against Cavan which is either a one off or a problem. Longford always seem to rack up between 10 and 15 points even when they lose. I think Longford might get a few more scores here going by last week. Longford 2-12 Westmeath 1-11

We stole that win last night against Antrim, 5 points down with 5 mins to go and we turn it into a 1 point win serious character shown by Down lads dug deep massive win for us.

Antrim played some great football and must be shocked taking nothing from the game, they will get there wins in this league playing like that.

A great high scoring game Down 2-18 Antrim 2-17.

No more than my own Offaly, its all about breeding confidence, 2 wins from 2 is a good boost for any team any league, the teams that have lost one or two will now be harder to beat too as they need wins, so nothing easy either for the teams with 2 wins out of 2 in the coming games...looking pretty competitive already..

Thats true, We were well below par v Antrim and still won the game, we looked like a team in the middle of some heavy training, heavy legged if you know what i mean, but the 2 week break will be good for us and if we can manage to beat Fermanagh next week we should be right in the hunt for promotion , i say that with caution as Cavan , Westmeath and others will be tough teams to beat

Allianz FL Division 3 round 3
Tipperary v Antrim, FBD Semple Stadium, 6pm on Saturday. touugh game to call this, Tipperary will see themselves unluck to lose to Down in Rd 1 but were soundly beaten in rd 2 by Cavan, Antrim ran in a good 2-17 against Down away last day and were impressive against Offaly - Antrimm should prevail here 2-14 Tippeary 1-12

Sundays games:
Fermanagh v Down, Ederney, 1pm - BBC iPlayer - Fermanagh will consider themselves unlucky not to at least get a draw last day V Offaly after good opening weekend win. Down scored well last day V Antrim and ide think they will score enough here to win. Down 1-17 Antrim 0-15

Cavan v Longford, Kingspan Breffni, 2pm - Longford badly need a win after 2 rounds bit it doesn'took easy here in a local cross province derby, one remembers very close battles back in same division back in the early 80s and ime sure since too. Longford will surely put up a display here but will it be like historically when Cavan always seem to have their measure, I think so.. Cavan 1-16 Longford 0-11

Westmeath v Offaly, TEG Cusack Park, 2pm- this is a tough call. Westmeath ran up a goodtally last day in 2nd Rd win V Longford, after Cavan brushed them aside 1st day out. Offaly have 2 wins will be happy with those, scoring though is abit of a worry, will we go for games against the perceived stronger teams in this division? last day or took 2 subs to grab hold of the game, be it close, can we get away with that against likes of Westmeath.. I don't know and think not..Ill go for a draw here.. Offaly 1-12 Westmeath 0-15.
