Why Aren't There Juvenile Inter Pros?

(Oldest Posts First)

Just a thought. We see our best youth playing international at juvenile level in many sports. Why not have GAA juvenile inter pros to see our best talent?

They have more than enough teams to play for.
In many sports interprovincial sides then international sides are the top level for players to play. Inter county is for GAA and with players already on school team or teams then club they have more than enough teams to play for. adding another isnt needed.
A talented minor could be playing club football and hurling, school or college football and hurling, county teams for each.
They dont need another team and all the training needed for these on top of that

Because we can't even manage it at senior level any more. The people have spoken, and they want no part of inter-provincials. It's regrettable. I loved the Railway Cup. But, in the GAA, provincial identity primarily is an Ulster thing only.

Why do you need them. Inter county is already a high enough level and these top players have enough teams and games to train for between school sides, club sides and more if they play lot of hurling and football.

Rugby doesnt have inter county teams and same with many other sports. they go straight to interprovincial level

The players already have club, county, school, colleges(for some). thats more than enough teams to be training for and playing on.

I'm more thinking about the talented hurler from Longford or Louth or Cavan (for example), who is limited by an accident of birth. Would be great to see a kid like that develop to their potential.

There used to be interprovincials at colleges level until the introduction of the Hogan Cup, and for a few years after until it faded in relevance. It was played as a once off for the centenary in 1984. My granduncle won one as a Westland Row player with Leinster. It was a massive deal. Unfortunately there are probably too many demands on young players to add the likes of this in again

Would they get picked?
And many top players already have more than enough teams to play on between school. club etc so no need to add another team and all the training on top of that
