Replying To legendzxix:  "The inter-county championship season is April to July. The club championship season is August to December and into January currently. That's 4 months to 6 months."
The intercounty players aren't available to their clubs from December onwards unless their clubs are involved in the provincial or AI club series

Replying To Whammo86:  "Yep I definitely think they deserve the least prestigious part of the year.

The only issues though are how long do you allocate for intercounty if they don't start until March.

Should it be a split season still?"
Intercounty League always overlapped with the provincial and AI club championships. Even ack in the day when there were a whole lot less intercounty fixtures. Impossible to change that with the current number of inter-county games.

August, September and October are block booked for the club championships. The autumn is a great time of year for these championships.
The intercounty season needs to start and finish one week earlier. The provincial club and All-Ireland club series then needs to reduce by 2 weeks. Everyone then can enjoy Christmas, feast well and go again in the new year!

If some counties are late completing their club competitions due to being involved in the latter stages of the Inter County championships, or other reasons, their club champions can have a short gap to provincial club involvement. Interestingly those counties who had concluded their own championships early, had a long wait before joining with the provincial inter club matches. It is hard to get it completely right, but I like the split season idea.

January sees the start of the O' Byrne Cup /Walsh Cup, and similar games in the other provinces, before the leagues begin at the end of the month.

We are never going to agree on this subject legendzxix! I think players would prefer getting a decent amount of time to play the provincial and AI championships and if necessary miss a few rounds of the Intercounty pre season and /or early League games. Especially dual players and clubs.
And the Football League should be completely decoupled from the championship and the other Cup.

Are you sure intercounty players don't want to maximise their playing time for their county as well? Completing the provincial club and All-Ireland club series in November and December gives intercounty players a Christmas break. They are then fully available for their counties in February, after being fully available for their clubs from August to December.

There aren't that many intercounty players involved in the AI series. There are only 4 senior football and hurling clubs, and the same at Junior and Intermediate. Maximum 24 clubs but might be less with dual clubs involved. Would there be 20 intercounty players involved in either code? Probably not even that. County Leagues start in February.

No man should be left behind. Why deny inter-county players, who are also successful with their clubs, from having more availability with their county as well? No man left behind.
