In my case that'll mean paying €81. Very expensive and means I Won't be travelling to any of the away league games this year

I don't think there's any chance of a Glen/Kilmacud replay this weekend. If Glen make an objection (deadline tomorrow), the CCCC would then investigate it, and probably order a replay. But, this weekend would be to soon. And when will the Walsh Cup Final take place, if not next Saturday? Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2419 - 24/01/2023 11:42:23 2453887 Link 0 |

I'd say it would be this weekend if its happened, GAA won't want 2022 club campaign dragging into the national league.

It's an outrage. €12 to stream the Walsh Cup was bad enough, but with enough bills to pay and the cost of everything increasing, the GAA should be criticised for putting the price of what is after all the secondary competition at €18. No-one would complain, in fact everyone would be delighted, if it was frozen at €10 adult. I'd strongly re-consider going to any matches now when having adult commitments has me stretched as it is. But nope, it's all about the bottom dollar for the organisation. And the way they have bottled the handling of the club final controversy, and put undue pressure on Glen to make the decision for them, is another stain on it. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1407 - 24/01/2023 12:56:02 2453930 Link 0 |
Ironic thing is as footballers are in Div 4 there games are 10 Euro Adult and 8 Euro Student/OAP, these games will have a championship feel to them compared to div 1 hurling at 18 and 15 euro where top 8-9 teams just don't want to be dragged in a possible battle.

Some of the pricing early this year shows how out of touch some people in positions of influence actually are.

€18 is definitely a lot for a League match, and I particularly feel for people like the poster above, who must have three students aged 16 or over if it'll cost him €81 to bring the family to a game. But a couple of points of order: - It's been several years since admission to a League match was just €10 a game. It was €15 last year and for at least four or five years before that too. - Have just posted over the AI Club Football Final thread that rather than "bottling" the controversy, the top brass are actually acting correctly within the Rule Book as it stands, since the only way it allows action against the awarding of a game is if one of the teams involved lodges an objection. In an ideal world, that rule would be different, and maybe it will be changed in due course, but that's the way things stand right now. Open to correction but I'm pretty sure pre covid the arrangement was 15Euro if you paid cash on the turnstile on the day and 12 euro if you bought tickets in super valu up to 24 hours before throw in, could have also included online too. On the football the Rule Book rhetoric is a bit of a cop out to me, sometimes common sense should prevail over letter of the law, it shouldn't be for Glen or Kilmacud to decide if the matter escalates further and GAA have shown poor leadership on the matter. €18 for a league match? Well, I'll see as much as I can on the telly so. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1102 - 24/01/2023 16:30:03 2454020 Link 0 |

Think you might be right on the first of those. I was always a "cash on the day" man myself when it was allowed. On the second, it simply can't be a clearcut case of common sense prevailing over letter of the law. Like it or not, top brass have to abide by what's set out in the Rule Book. If they didn't, and for example ordered a replay themselves without there being an objection lodged by Glen, then Kilmacud would have an absolutely clearcut case against that decision. Unless of course the top brass decided to ignore the Rule Book again, and then you'd be into all sorts of trouble! Woefully unfortunate that this is the situation and I feel strongly myself that there should be provision in the rules for a third party like CCCC to take action in such clearcut cases, but neither I, them, Glen, nor anybody else can change the Rule Book this week.
