COR needs to step away from his weekly indo article. I don't want a blow by blow account of how his last week of intercounty management has been dir the next few years. Article yesterday full of waffle about raw emotion trumping everything else along with other stuff I want him to keep to himself, frankly cause it made him sound like a total novice. I fully expect him to have a clear focus on the well defined historical problem areas over the last few years. It seems the panel will not be all that much different anyway. So the objective has to be to get more out of the available players. Clearly that means Coaching in all key areas has to improve especially in mental preparation and confidence building. Training sessions have to be structured ,and designed to meet identified needs .Continous improvement is the only show in town. To achieve that attitude is absolutely vital. Thats the agenda ,and nothing else. I expect COR to be ruthless in persuit of this. I did get the impression that a little bit of self doubt could be creeping in maybe. If it is hide it Colm. I for one believe you can do the job and the best equipped man to take us forward. Shane Walsh for DCU had a solid game at 11 but got a costly black card for a check off the ball. He's looking fit and hungry again though which is promising. Maynooth had Ciaran McCarrick at corner back picking up Sean Jones from Monaghan which was a great battle, I thought McCarrick did very well and seems to be highly thought of by manager Davy Burke and also found himself on rob Finnerty from Galway in the latter stages. We are down for: Weds 4 Jan away to Carlow Sat 7 Jan home to Laois Weds 11 Jan home to Longford The Meath group winner gets a bye to the final on Fri 20 Jan. Played 11 and was on top of his game. Hopefully COR can do some convincing because didn't seem to be anywhere near a burnout the other night ! Expectations .............. For now i think the traditional expectations may have to be reviewed. Like everybody else i want to see us beating Dublin etc. From where we are at now that is a massive task no doubt. Not likely to happen but it could be possible. It can only be possible if we accept that our standards in some basic football skills are below par . So thats the starting point We can forget any fancy notions of us being really competitive at top level.WITHOUT attending to this I do believe we will have the best 20 or so to wear the jersey.I am fully prepared to leave it to the management team to pick them.After all they are best placed for that end of!! So i will measure SUCCESS by how much we IMPROVE on a consistant basis rather than anything else for now. Coaching has to improve MASSIVELY.in all areas . Football skills mentally and physically. Colm and his team will have to have a culture where players take full responsibility for their own improvement .I expect "homework" to be a new buzword.here. I dont want to see a Meath team crippled by fear as witnessed in the last few years. Practise to improve to build the confidence. Our backroom team seem to be rich in resoures required for the job Our target is likely to play far more direct attacking football . I would like our resourse team to have a chat with players who have shown potential but may not want to continue for one reason or another. For our improvement we need fielders especially in the forwards and midfield The running style we have employed maybe was necessary as good big players seem hard to find anyway. I believe we may have some fringe players who would benefit very much from a hand on the shoulder from the right person. Finally I dont want to see COR just sitting on that tractor in the add a couple of months ago. I want to see him really driving it against all the perceived odds I believe he will have to be ruthless .Inertia has set it and that looks a strong looking tractor .We all know as a player Colm was never afraid of a challenge. Were they injured?" Rumour has it both were dropped by management for playing on Wednesday. Not injury related as both played full games for maynooth who I'm believed to have them both on gaa scholarships. I'd say management thought they had the game won before it even started and could make a statement dropping the two …. To not start them let alone not bring both on was bold ! Were they injured?" College football is at a decent level but it's not that high a level. Plenty of Meath players have won it and have never played a championship match for Meath. Michael Flood with UCC, I think there was an O'Mahony's keeper on a UCD team. For me it's a definite sign of a counties strength if they have lots of Sigerson players. Not sure if there any others form the regional teams.
