Just read the sad news of Brian's passing. If you are of a certain vintage like me, he really was the pantomime villain , particularly to Meath supporters. (Bit like our own graham after Brian was to dubs) . But what a fantastic player he was, yes he was physically imposing in the middle of the field but he had talent in abundance.
I'm gonna let a little secret out here now, I was once in the company of Colm coyle and who should appear only Brian. Colm been the wisecracker that he was said "ahh jasus Brian didn't recognize you with ur teeth in" as quick as a flash Brian turns around and says with the trademark lisp "now coyler you shut ur mouth or I'll put ur teeth down ur neck" the group just burst out laughing while Colm and Brian did the same. It was the only time I was ever in Brian's company in a social setting. He was a encyclopaedia of Dublin and further afield in football terms.

A fantastic player and competitor gone far too soon, I grew up watching him and the great Dublin and Kerry teams in the 70's-80's.

R. I. P. Big Brian. Was one of the greatest midfielders I ever saw playing. A giant of a man and while he was as tough as nails on the pitch he was a great sportsman off the pitch. Excelled at rugby too. A true gaa legend. Sincere sympathy to his family and friends.

Went to Dublin football matches just to see him in action.

Fantastic player. For the younger posters think Brian Fenton. Used to love his battles with Jack O'Shea in the Dublin Kerry matches. Tough player as well as was required back in those days.

Joe Brolly tells a great story when Mullins was Derry manager and Joe scored a goal and did his blowing kisses to the crowd routine. One of the defenders took revenge leaving Joe with a nasty leg gash requiring stitches. Lying on the treatment table he looked up at Mullins hoping for a kind word and Mullins told him "you deserved that".

One of the great players in an era of great players.

I first saw Brian Mullins play in the flesh in the All Ireland semi-final in Croke Park against Cork in 1974. It was the day the Hill really came alive in a major way and Heffo's Army went into over-drive. As a young lad I could see that the team was led by a giant of a young midfielder with flowing blond hair. We could all see that not only was Brian Mullins at 19 going to be a good one he was also going to be a great one. Undoubtably one of the best mid fielders of all time.
While St Vincents and Dublin supporters will have many happy memories of Brian, I will always remember his tussle with the great Dermot Early (RIP) in the semi final in 1979 when Dublin won by a point, which broke all the Rossie hearts.

Today many St Vincent and Dublin hearts are broken. Rest in Peace Brian.

RIP Brian Mullins! And condolences to his family, club, and friends.

Mullins was a true giant of the game. He was a particular favorite of mine, along with the also too-soon-gone Anton O'Toole: the two men from Heffo's Army to win 4 All-Ireland medals.

I loved watching those two greats in action, along with Jimmy Keaveny and Tommy Drumm. Those were my favorite Dubs.

Rest easy gentlemen (and Mick Holden too, and the Kerry lads: Kennelly, Egan and Paidi). What great enjoyment they gave me!

Sympathies to all the Mullins family,Dublin Gaa,st Vincent's and UCD..I loved the dub/Kerry matches in 70,s/80s..he was a fab footballer and when it had to be tough well able for that..the 83 final will be mentioned a lot but the battles with jacko and seanie Walsh were brilliant..had a great partnership with Bernard brogan..rip mr Mullins..
